Hey LESTAT?!?!?! Why don't you load up this new F4a BIOS and check the PIO/IRQ crap that you're experiencing?

Does Lestat have some issues with forum members or something?

(not starting a flame war, just curious)

Lestat is a little abrasive, but I've seen worse.

No flaming here...in fact I find most of Lestats posts to be very informative. I was planning on RAID0ing my 2 new WD74ADFD's on my DS3 and he brought up that there are issues with PATA optical drives when you do this.

I was hoping this BIOS could solve those issues.

I'll find out tomorrow as my retail E6600 will be in my hands tomorrow!!!!

Woohoo!!!

If anyone can comment on the IRQ and x9 multi issues after flashing I'd appreciate it.

Brahmzy...may i ask what firmware comes with your Raptors?, and the manufacture date?, if you have such info to hand.

heheh im a bastard and dont you forget it!!

lol

im not so bad when things are good. but when things are bad i can get ugly.

i'll try this bios on lunch here in about 15 minutes and report back.

gigabyte has denied any wrong doing by putting the majority of the hardware on 2 IRQ's so that right there, they fell back down the technical latter when they said that to me. thats just idiotic.

anyways im happy to test and let everyone know.

Sure - they're just sitting here doing nothing...

MDL: WD740ADFD - 00NLR1

Both are the same...and I even recieved my two $30 rebate checks in the mail 2 weeks ago. That's how friggin' long I've been waiting to build this dang Conroe box.

Actually ACPI handles multiple devices on the same IRQ very well. This is a common occurance with windows xp.

Lestat

im not talking about multiple devices, im talking multiple resource hungry devices. multiple usb hubs/port, video and lan all on one IRQ.
you can tell things aint right when your mouse starts dragging.

here's a new piece for us E6600 owners.

START RAISING THAT FSB PAST 400!!!!
new bios.... new speeds....... :)

*edit* maybe not lol

410 in the bios bootable. but no higher. 415 via windows and im out of time gotta head back to work.
it aint much but its a start

New bios hasn't done nothing for me:( looks like i am going to have to wait a little longer for the bigger overclock

Lestat

only thing i saw physically int he bios was the addition of the cpuid lock at 3. for legacy os's.
or have i just not payed any attention to that from the F3 bios.

i hit 410 then the system would reboot and NOT turn off this time it would just cycle the pre-post stages where your cdrom's cycle. but thats all.
so ill have to reset the cmos tonight when i get home. which entails swpaping ram out.
but my ocz stuff showed up so ill swap with that and see how well it does.

as for anything else, i imagine it was just some slight issues resolved.
i will have to reload to check the IRQ situation i believe.
which i dont mind,
give me a chance to set raid again to check the PIO mode thingy also.

rattsabre
08-01-2006, 12:13 PM
CPUID lock was in F3. Only difference I've noticed is this bios seems to give my ram better latencies for some reason, 3-4-4, vs the 3-5-5 it stated before.

Thanks Lestat, please do check the RAID/PIO issue out tonight. :)

My E6600 gets here tomorrow, so I will be building away...

Whats so hard about setting lower ratios, this is a cheaper budget board and my ram wont go far beyond 333mhz I believe. That might hold back performance in itself of course but I'd rather deal with that when I get to it

pio mode is not fixed guys.

i believe more now after playing around that this is a driver issue.
which doesnt surprise me
JMicron is a very low budget substandard chipset used on cheaper motherboards. or by companies who don't want to pay Intel's royalties for using the ICH7/8 SATA/IDE controller.

and did you people even try the link posted in the first post ? you didnt otherwise you'd know its a direct link to the download he is hosting on his geocities webspace.

Richard Dower

I agree, they should have used a Silicon image 3132 controller and dumped IDE altogether...who needs it?

I have SATA opticals.

775911
08-01-2006, 05:36 PM
Ive brought a PCI IDE raid, sounds like I'll definetly be needing it.

I remember people doing custom bioses for socket A, mantaray and others. Is that still possible?

Not everyone can use Rapidshare. Depends if your isp has proxies, etc which then requires you have alternative arrangements

Lestat
08-01-2006, 05:37 PM
you have sata opticals huh good luck with that.

i and everyone else fails to see the reason to pay 100+ bucks for a jacka$$ retarded plextor drive since there are only like 3 on the market and they are all upto 3x's more than the same ide drive.

dump IDE get real kiddo, ide is years from being dead.

Richard Dower
08-01-2006, 06:14 PM
Plextor are FAR from retarded, Plextor have always commanded a premium price, from the days of the Plextor Premium and 8MB cache.

There are four models with SATA interface, 712SA/716SA/755SA/760SA...the best of the bunch is the 716SA, you can pick up a 712SA in Europe for €47!

you can go ahead and buy a plex drive if you dont mind updating the firmware every week since they release about 100 different firmwares until the things work right.

that and they are WAYYYYYYYYYY overpriced.
Lite-On kicks their arse in price, and they are the same if not higher quality in my eyes. i still have my original 5yr old lite-on drive and it still works to this day.

anyways get real. IDE is far far far from dead.
sata is nearly mainstream for hard drives but like i said when 3 people make sata dvd drives that has to tell you something doesnt it?

there is no speed increase,
they have issues when booting from a cdrom
other than that i dont know much but know for a fact here in the states you cant buy one for under $100.

I'm afraid my 2 Raptor WD740ADFD's will not be doing RAID0 like I'd hoped-I just don't want to have to :banana::banana::banana: with stuff. I even bought 2 IDE/SATA adapters but don't feel like messin' with 'em. I'll wait a few months or so when/if Gigabyte fixes this gheyness.

IMO yes, the only real difference to say the 755A and 716SA is 716 has 8MB buffer while the 755 has 2MB.

The DL write has been increased to 10x and the 755, check the specs over at www.plextor.be
