View Full Version : Conroe board: D975XBX, DS3, DS4....
Guys,
I'm looking for a board to go with an E6600 conroe.
I've already taken the P5W off my list because its far to bloated for my needs.
So, which of the currently available boards do you think is the best to go with? I'm currently leaning towards the D975XBX as its free from bloat and works pretty well with the E6600 (i've heard of problems with the DS3 + E6600)?
Feedback appreciated..
There arent any problems with the e6600 and DS3, its just Conroes (4mb L2) seem to produce better numbers with 975 boards and Allendale (2mb L2) get better numbers with 965.
For gaming and normal use i bet any combination would be fine.
So just go for whatever board i like the look of then?

the Intel XBX is a good board. Most everyone is waiting for a better board but so far everyone is still waiting. I've used the XBX, Asus P5wDH, and the DFI and still like the XBX.

Yeah badaxe's are solid... as long as you don't volt mod them they seem to last and work as they should (see sig) hehe

anandtech said only like 20-30% overclocking with 6300/6400 on badaxe without mods.
what's true about this ?

1304/1334 bios allow for 50% clocking from bios the rest via clockgen :)

eva2000, are those scores in your sig CPU limited or FSB limited? What's your highest boot fsb and are you using clockgen or similar to boost fsb in Windows? What sort of vcore + vmch are you at? Is the board stock (no mods)? hehe, so many questions. :) But I need to know because right now it's a toss-up between BadAxe and DS3 for me and I have almost identical psu and cooling as you (and cpu of course).

both stock boards no volt mods :)
both rigs in sig FSB limited heh rig #1 max fsb is 421-423fsb on 1067fsb strap, rig #1 max fsb is 430-433fsb on 1067fsb strap - comes down to quality of MCH on each board
highest boot from bios on 1067fsb strap is maxed out 50% burn in so 9x400fsb max bootable since 266fsb + 50% is max option i have in bios = 400fsb
clockgen for getting higher from 9x400fsb windows boot
seems to have managed my highest cpu clocked passed 32M runs since changing power supplies. Not my fastest times but that can be worked on later :)

both runs ran from same windows session heh

is that good?

who said about everyday 24/7 heh
if it's for everyday use just switch to 1333fsb strap and you'll be able to max out the fsb for the badaxe with 333fsb + upto 50% burnin..
for everyday use i.e. browsing the net etc you won't notice the diff between 1067fsb/1333fsb strap... you don't game 24/7 so that shouldn't be a prob.. when you game and need every fps then 1067fsb + clockgen

DS3... You can boot all the way to 400, hopefully farther if they release better BIOSes for the X9 and up multis.
Using clockgen everytime you want to game or do something would be a PITA.
