Any thoughts / advice on which way I should upgrade would be appreciated.

1- AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2000MHz HT 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Dual Core Processor - Retail - $195

Motherboard
ATI RD580 Crossfire Motherboard - $200 ~ When Available
Or
Foxconn C51XEM2AA- 8EKRS2H ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail - $195

2- Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 - $210 ~ When Available

Motherboard:
ABIT AB9 Pro Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail - $160

I would go with the C2D. I'd buy a big HS and OC it a little and you for sure get a way faster chip.

I would have to recomend the Core duo, They are simply put BEASTS of processors, they are unbelievably fast, i have played with a lot of hardware, and this is by far the biggest increase i have ever seen, its astounding, i would really recomend it to anyone, it might be a little more expensive right now with the AMD price drops and all, but man it really is worth it, Simply put you will be impressed. I can't comment on the mobo, as i am running the Asus P5W DH but from the reviews and what not i have read it seems promising. But i would definatly recomend going Intel, at least for now.
