Ok, I'm building a gaming rig for a friend and I just can't decide on what CPU heatsink to get. I would get the Tuniq Tower if it was available but since it isn't I gotta go with something else. I can't decide between the Thermalright Ultra-120 or the Thermalright SI-128!? I think those are the two best performers right now, without considering silence that much.
So which should I get? The Ultra-120? SI-128? Or something else??? I'm looking for the best performer!
This is all gonna be housed by a Tt Armor with the 250mm side panel fan.
We're buying the parts real soon real soon, so some quick help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced! :)

Thermalright dont have a look in right now in the top few coolers, the ninja or tuniq are meant to be good but I can tell you the TT-BT is and mines is in a TT case so you will be ok for clearance even with 250mm side fan cause I just looked at door for sale seperate and seen pics of depth inside edge of fan.
BTW my TT-BT keeps my amd mobile athlon barton cool at upto 2.8gig and 1.9v load wont pass 55C even in this freak hot UK summer, but I normally run 2750mhz @ 1.85v cause its 250x11, which is better than 2800mhz (200x14) as its got ram working more and far more bandwidth.
BTW the TT-BT is now avail for AM2 incase you want to use on any current rig but only older ones fit socket A, I bet its same but they dont include brackets.

Ultra-120 is best it seems. fins are dense etc.. Tower heatsinks have the performance crown.

True, but the SI-128 will cool the area around the socket much more. Is the X amount of degrees the Ultra can cool better worth how much hotter the area around the socket will be?
Thanks!

The Big Typhoon is at the top of the heap right now.
I own a BT, Ninja, and a SI-120 and the BT is definately the best out of those. My SI-120 is lapped and with the same fan and ambients it's only 1-3 degrees behind the BT. I imagine the SI-128 will fair even better. My Ninja is the poorest performer of the group, it lags behind the BT by 4-5 degrees, same fan and ambients.
My advice is if you don't go with the BT, go for the SI-128.
bt\si128 they will cool mb nice and get a lot of fresh air directly from the 25cm fan...

oh you have the 250mm fan... go for the SL-128. Personally I prefer tower as I'll probably have other fans blowing across it anyway...

Considering you already have a 250mm fan already cooling the board, go for the better CPU COOLER, i.e., the Ultra-120 (or the Scythe Infinity if you can find it).

Good point. I already chose the Ultra. Thanks for confirming my choice. ;)
