I'm building a new Conroe system and I was just wondering if I should bother spending $250 on a 7900GT or just get a 7600GT for $150 and save the money for the future DX10 cards.

Anybody have any idea when they are stated to come out? And also, when will games that require them come out?

I'm just wondering if it's worth getting the top of the line when a new generation is coming out soon.

the 7900GT is a big jump in perfomance. i would get the 7900GT if you plan on doing gaming, which is seems you will be from mention of dx10.

so unless your budget is very strapped, go for the 7900.

X1900GT...the only card under $300 that does 9.5k 3dmark05 stock.

It's your decision 7900gt vs x19 gt...the 7600gt will leave you wanting more...as for "Next Gen Cards Coming Soon"...six months isn't soon.

Here's a comparison:

The 1900gt and the 7900gt are pretty close. The 1900gt wins in some benchmarks, and the 7900gt wins in others. Both of them destroy the 7600gt, though.

I would take a simple 7600gt cus ya will survive with it a while and ya can oc it quite high to get even smoothier performance. 7900gt is way to expensive to be a trans card so to speak, but that only what i think.

The 7900's are a waist of money. I got my wife a pair of 7900 GTX's and hate them so much. Sure they can bench great but that's it. Their IQ and the fact they can't do HDR with FSAA is a big bummer. For the ammount you spend on them it just isn't worth it.

I would sugest you getting either a x1900 GT or a 7600 for the time being and not touch the high end nVidia until the G80 comes out. Also the 7600 performs great when you add better cooling and OC it. It can handle most games at fairly decent settings without high AA or HDR.

I was in the same position you were about 3 months ago. I went with the 7600 and I am very happy. I already ahve 360 saved up for my DX10 card. Its just not worth the extra cash for that amount of time.
