Doesn't Texas Instruments own a few ideas on extending the PCI-express slots outside the case?
I remember when Alienware was very PR happy and was hyping its dual card solution that they also mentioned several times that the next step was going to be an external enclosure for 3 cards.

so if someone don't play games, they can get ride of vid card at all.
it better be built like the Matrox m3D or Voodoo 1, a pure 3D rasterizer
when we can use an on-board video to hook up monitors

would be really fun I think
could be able to make its own wc setup in a bigger enclosure

Keep it in the case damnit. There is no reason for this at all imo.

Not gunna happen. Even if they made a interface with that much bandwidth, the latency will probably be too high.

One day all your devices will be outside the case using wireless transmissions. Yes, the speeds will get there very soon. :)
Think how fast you could changes your harddrive or video card...just switch it on and off through the software. ;)

Highly unlikely given that the X1900XTX only had about 120watt power in consumption, I don't think this one will be straining our PSUs anytime soon...
