Actually a lot of people simply don't know that this merger is still not a merger yet...although the fanboi will tell you different.
"In the event that the transaction does not close, ATI has agreed to pay AMD a termination fee of $162.0 million under circumstances specified in the acquisition agreement. The transaction is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2006."
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Corporate/...~110899,00.html
From ATI website:
The transaction, valued at US $5.4 billion, is expected to close in Q4 2006 subject to approval by ATI shareholders, court approval, regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.

Therefore, this will be news to a lot of the bias and corrupt.
What I don't understand is this blind faith in AMD when they needed to take out a loan (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14008460/) for 2.5 billion (not million) from Morgan Stanley to even do this (all used for the merger).
Shouldn't this say AMD does not have the capital to do this?
Shouldn't this say AMD will trickle down repayment of their loan plus interest into their price structure?
SHouldn't this say AMD will not have the startup capital to run their business which may cause job cuts, manufacturing cuts, etc?

You may have forgotten one.
Shouldn't this say AMD is acting a little like a trapped animal fighting for its life?

or: by not spending every last red cent they keep capital on hand to operate the facilities which would otherwise would have just been pointless.
Remind me not to hire you guys if I ever run a business ;)

income statement (http://www.google.com/finance?fstype=ii&cid=327)
balance sheet (http://www.google.com/finance?fstype=bi&cid=327) total assets are not easily converted into cash do to long term investments, etc so that really doesn't count when you consider a merger like this
cash flow (http://www.google.com/finance?fstype=ci&cid=327)
Again, nothing in their portfolio suggest they had the necessary assets to complete this merger on their own. They barely have enough to quailfy for the loan which now appears to have been granted out of good faith IMO.

it sounds more to me like some of you guys just don't want this deal to go down. NOBODY knows the fruits this may reap and it is laughable that you somehow think you know more than ATI/AMD execs.
Why don't we start talking in 2008 instead of speculate ?
