View Full Version : 7950GX2 block from DD
Haven't seen this posted here yet, thought there might be some interest. Looks like a decent setup:

Looks like a right flowkiler. Not much you can do with such demential card design though.

Cool! Although it looks crazy restrictive, it makes it a lot easier for me to consider the 7950 now that there's a block for it, even if it was not optimal, I'm going to assume right off the bat that it is better than the stock air stuff.
stick it with a mag2, pa160 and a 14cm yate. that would be good. and a second loop for your cpu of course...

DD doesn't list a price for the block(s) yet but at least there's one for the card.

Well, at the speed my RD-30 is phsing water through 1/2 or 5/8 tubing and RIGHT PAST THE FRACKING TLINE *cough* ahem sorry, yes anyway if this is what its like @ 15v i suspect @ 24v I could have a 4x4 with 2 storms and 2 7950GX2 and it wouldnt even notice it.
lol
that would be quite an setup! throw in 4 gigs of ram and 2 iram in raid 1 too then...

Looks like a decent block, but like said it looks very restrictive. 2 loops is the way to go though, a single 120MM rad would be perfect.

And suddenly the GX2 is an option for me....yes, it's restrictive, but it'd be the only thing in the loop anyway, so who cares? lol

Restrictive ... yes.
Design ... really nice.
Now the GX2 is an option.

I think it looks like a very nice block, but how do you mount it? Seems like a hard mounting process to me.
You have to take the card appart and then it's probably just screw on :)

what about the wieght , i think it will be more than 800gram for sure

might need additional post from floor of the case to hold up
or make it like hanging from the top...
thats got to be quite heavy for a single pci-e mount to hold...
not to mention going quad sli...
It's dual-slot, but it'll probably require some form of bracket anyway. Also makes me wonder if this thing would allow you to jack the GPUs up to 7900GTX speeds. I know they're the same chips, but can the chopped-down PCB provide the power?

How much does it weight...?

its 2 pcbs yes, but it is still only 1 slot!

I see 7950GX2 in my future. :o

Theres gotta be away to increase the space between the two boards... That PCI-E connect that between them just needs a riser. Make it so it takes up 3 PCI slots rather than 2. Would make things a lot easier.

Agreed, this is definatly on my hit list now.

in all honesty... i ask why you'd drop the cash on a 7950GX2 when you need a fancy waterblock that costs even more money, when you have 8800GTX's right around the corner... or so a little bird told me ;)
But then, why not wait for the 8950GX2?
And the fusion reactor to power it....

Yeah, aint G80 s'posed to use 300W @ load?
There aint no way in hell thats going into my pc =p

But what if the performance per clock was as good as Netburst Vs Core :slobber:
i think then you might change you rmind :D
imo i think amd & ati's new gpu will pwn more :p:

no. im not putting a GPU that uses 300W in my pc, just like ive never put a P4 in it.
theyre not getting any of my cash until they start doing power use optimizations.
when the R600 comes out will be a good point for me to get an X1950XTX.

it looks very good to me. anyone have idea when it will be up for sale?
where have you heard that the g80 is 300w @ load? more than tripple than now, i dont believe it!

Info about DX10 cards being 300W draw was whispered around @ computex.
ATI & NV havent denied it, and they have mentioned that power consumption has indeed gone up. Theyve also been working with PSU makers about supplementary PSUs that fit 5.25" bays for your GPU... which strangely enough pump out about 350W each.

300W for a gpu...? OMG!

Wouldn't be suprised if X1950XTX used more power than GF 7950GX2. X1900XT are the power hungriest cards on the market. Also that block seems nice and if you would put it in separate loop for gpu only the flow restriction wouldn't be problem.

i shouldnt expect so. core speed for the X1950XTX is the same as the X1900XTXs, it just uses refined architecture (more efficient) and GDDR4. I doubt the power draw increase will be very large.
R600 and G80, thats another matter :)

Looks like a regular X1900XT consumes more the GX2:

Thats what you pay for having 300M transistors and being able to AA+HDR.
I aint buying any nV card until they get off theior butts and make one that can do that =p

not bad I just hate full coverage blocks like that, def looks like it needs its own loop. hmm i do have a mcp350/bip2 laying around.. no news on pricing?
the orientation of the barbs do SUCK though
