k here is my question. if im using a router, where would i need cross, or where would i need straight (patch) cat5e cables?

Edit: I read it all wrong, starting over...
Strictly speaking, crossover if you're going straight to PC.
Realistically, 99.998% of consumer routing equipment is auto-sensing and doesn't care. If you only have a patch cord, chances are it will work.
