My current build
asus a8n32-sli deluxe
Athlon 64 3700+ @2.75ghz
eVGA 7600GT Superclocked (broken)
2gb kingston valueram
sound blaster x-fi

Now i must decide between a 7900GTX or a 7950GX2. Do the 7950GX2's 48 pixel pipelines effectively double its speed when compared to the 7900GTX? How much faster then the 7900GTX is the 7950? Is it worth the $100-150 increase in price?

I was considering the Dell 24" LCD or a comparable acer monitor to fully use the power of these cards. I have heard mixed reviews about acer, but an acer monitor is anyhwere from $50-150, plus they are sold in stores so its possible to buy one without haveing to ship it. Would it be better to go for a name brand like dell etc? Can a monitor that large refresh fast enough to game on? Are there any other good brands to buy from?

The 7950GX2 is like two 7900GT in SLI mode so the performance is quite a bit better than a single 7900GTX. For 24" tft definitely a 7950GX2 and dont buy Acer if you can afford Dell.

7950 GX2 is probably worth the increase in price. Most of them can overclock to 600 mhz or so if you put a 120mm fan behind them. SLI works well at high resolutions. You might be bottlenecked a little by your CPU, however.

I don't have the 24" Dell, only the 2005fpw, but I can't notice any ghosting. Unlike many manufacturers, Dell doesn't fib on the response time. 16ms is like 8ms from most manufacturers, but I don't know about the 24" model. Dell is constantly running specials and discounts on it's monitors. Right now you can get 20% off and free shipping.

Edit: Here's a nice review comparing the 7950 GX2 and the 7900 GTX:

They are almost identical at lower resolutions, but the 7950 GX2 is much better than the 7900 GTX at 1650x1080 and higher.

Thanks for the advice, think im going to get those and wait to upgrade cpu until AMD drops price.
