View Full Version : PC8000 - To buy, or not to buy, for my Conroe build?

I've definitely got my heart set on an E6600.

For the board, I'm consdering Abit/Gigabyte 965, then switch to a RD600 or some badass DFI/MSI board (I don't run dual cards at the moment, and never seem to have the cash for it anyways ;) ), or buy the Asus P5W DH now and keep it. Because I'm a gamer, I realy like the 965 3d benches though.

My biggest stumbling block (aside from the motherboard, of course) is the DDR2. I'm trying to decide on either PC6400 or PC8000. Now I know my retail Conroe probably won't reach the insane FSB that the lower multi and ES chips are hitting... Which tells me I should be OK with PC6400. But I'm wondering if I do hit a good chip, or if I can run a ratio is the extra cash for the PC8000 worth it? A lot of folks here seem to be running PC6400.

I do realize that 3.6 is what I'm shooting for, which would be 9 x 400, negating the need for DDR 1000.

If I decide to go PC6400, what are some good sets to consider? Should I just jump on somehting like the OCZ PC8000?

Thanks.
