Patriot 2 GB ram-175 $
WD 250 GB 7200 HDD-90 $
Coolermaster Centurion case-70 $
Antec 550 watt PSU-90 $
NEC CD Drive-30 $
And some cheap Crossfire Motherboard that can overclock just a little-120-150 $

How will it be for gaming, photoshoping, and some 3d rendering? This will probaly be on a 17" CRT

cpu: Good choice and overclock well.
gpu: Also good choice.
hd: Maybe you want to look some Seagate drives as they are the fastest 7200rpm hd's now.
ram: Don't know if that Patriot is good or not but Team Xtreem PC5300 2GB set is good and overclocks to PC6400 speeds easily.
Case: Maybe something that has better case ventilation like Antec P180 or Lian Li V1000. Antec P150 is quiet and cheap and has moderate case ventilation and comes with great Antec Neo HE 430w psu which has ample power for that system.
psu: If that is the Neo HE 550w then it's a great psu but I would look something else if it's Truepower II.
Cd drive: I assume that's a dvd drive? If it is a good choice and no need to spend more money on that.
Mobo: Ati's new RD600 chipset will take some time to hit the selfes of the shops but for now I would get I975X chipset mobo which can also do Crossfire and is good for overclocking.
With those changes it will be a awesome comp but 17" crt? Are you kidding me :stick: Get at least a decent 19" crt like Sony, but tft's are not that expensive these days so 19" would be good choice for that comp.

Yeah, what Nazu said. You can get a 320gb Seagate 16mb cache 7200rpm for only 99 bucks at newegg. Also, you can save 15 more dollars by going with the Sapphire Tech 1900XT for $355 at the egg also.

Yeah I as just about to mention either the 320GB WD or Seagate 16MB cache HDDs. They should be $99.
If you already have a 17" CRT and plan to use that, that's fine as I understand you don't want to splash out more cash than necessary.
Only upgrade the monitor to a TFT if it's a real bargain (off the back of a truck kind of thing ~$30).
Everything else Nazu mentioned too.

Thermaltake VD3000BNA Black Aluminum-80 $
Enermax Liberty 500W - $105

Total:
And some cheap Crossfire Motherboard that can overclock just a little-120-150 $
Good luck to find a crossfire board supporting Conroe for this price. The cheapest Conroe board is about $150. You will have to put $220 and more to get Crossfire.

Would a sub $50 video card tide me over until the 1950XTX comes out? I'm hoping to get my conroe rig here by next week.

Interesting.
