Ave,

I'm having a problem formatting a Maxtor Hard Drive.

Few days ago, after Hard Booting my system due to an installation, i found out that my 40GB Maxtor HDD had gone "Corrupt & unreadable". After trying to run chkdsk, i found out that the Master File Table was corrupt. From what i understand, the only way to get the drive working again is to format it.

I used "GetDataBack for NTFS" to recover all the data from that drive... which went perfectly fine.

Now i'm trying to format the drive so i can use it again. Wether i Format using DOS, or Windows... it gets stuck at 95%. It wont' format beyond 95%.

Any suggestions?

The platter surface could be physically damaged, seeing that it's a 40GB drive (fairly old I assume) chances are that it's beyond repair. You can try a utility called Hard Drive Regenerator, I've tried it on a couple of older corrupted drives and it was able to temporarily salvage one while failing on another. If that doesn't work, you probably need to get a new drive. Good luck!

Got HDD Regenrator. Will try this evening and let you know how it worked out. Thanks.

Try using killdisk, it works very well.
