New Max Frequency WR on a QuadCore Kentsfield : 4550MHz

After the 4455MHz I've got with that cpu, I've been convinced it deserves a well vmodded m/b to run on, 1.54v was a shame :D Now, it's 1.72v, and I can still go higher (up to 1.78v)...

The major issue is still the max fsb, now I simply can't go any higher than 267MHz, it's really upsetting me, whatever I try, I can't do anything to fix this, I've tried several fsb straps (533/800/1066, the 1333 won't boot at all), any Vmch, tried to set in the bios or in clockgen... and, for sure, i use the last Intel bios, which is supposed to improve the o/c a bit... that board sucks with a Kentsfield, that's all. :stick:

4550MHz doesn't seem to be the max I can get, I was just too busy to fight with combinations of high multipliers and low fsb today, but I promise, i'll be back tomorrow

Good job again, Tyrou. I noticed coolaler was also using a high multiplier and low FSB to get 4462MHz. Interesting CPU.

Congrats. It sounds like an uphill battle but you are doing well in spite of it. Well done :)

congrats m8 :toast:
very very nice indeed :woot:
At what maximum clock you can run benches?

wow, congrats. while most people are still playing with conroes, you and coolaler are already playing with Kentsfield!

wow nice oc, can you please run 3dmark06 or cinebench?

Well, as I'm sure everyone is aware, don't expect high FSB speeds with Kentsfield. Better than 267 should be expected, but not that much better. As you add loads to the FSB (more cores), it becomes harder to increase the frequency of the FSB because the signal degrades across the two loads (sort of). It's a good thing they're all unlocked.

that's a a good explanation, but IMO, it's more like a "bug" on the XBX, as we've seen 390MHz fsbs on the MSI board, using the same northbridge ;)

no problem, I'll run some benches with it :D

i think everyone is expecting some benchmarks...

nice overclock. too bad about the problem though. good luck with that.
