got an Asus P5W DH and currently using a Celeron D 331 with 2 gb of Corsair 6400c4 and XP pro and i've updated the bios to 701 and changed the HAL to Multiprocessor ACPI and still not showing up as two cores in any identification utilities or task manager or device manager.

Driving me crazy, any ideas?

umm that is a single core processor. There is no second core to show up.

I don't think it even has Hyperthreading

So basically you are complaining about the OS not finding something that is not there?

I think because it says Celeron D he think the D stands for dual core. I have the 345 myself.

Hmm after looking at wiki's entry on it I realised why i thought it did have two cores as generally the D denoted dual core ala Pentium D 805 etc etc. I'm no noob on the subject as I have been doing this stuff for awhile (I'm a tech dude in a real small IT company) but there you go. I was pwned by intel :p

Well I can make up for it with my friend who's coming to visit me in a few weeks! His name's Conroe and I'm sure we'll have LOTS to talk about :D

Yeah sure is weird with it having the "D" letter there, i'd assume it was dual core too, if i was into celeron type gear :)

oh and it's sitting happily at 4 ghz on stock volts and it's default cooler. Not bad for a little Celeron 2.6 ghz

Its a honest mistake, with the D805 being so demn cheap its no surprise people mistake Celly-D for dualcore.. Actually, when looking at the price for Celly compared to D805 the Celly SHOULD be dualcore :) When Pentium D was introduced i knew there was going to be misunderstandings, but at the time people didnt mistake it coz of the much higher price difference.
