Now that prices of AM2 are falling I think that instead of get a 939 X2 for my Aria, I'll just upgrade to AM2. The mb in it now is a MSI K8NGM2. It does a nice job but.
I haven't kept up on AM2 like I should. Will I gain anything with is over the 939? Should I just get a 4200 for it? There are no oc options on the MSI mb and I sure don't like that.
Any AM2 mirco's with a good oc bios? AM2 run any cooler?
I did searches so don't post that.;)

You will future proof your rig. AM2 will beable to take AM3 CPU's, and K8L CPU's. Get a Tforce6100 AM2. Quality of DFI with the legendary OCability without costing a arm and a leg. =P 939's are done with. Best to get something that will last through 3 or 4 years of upgrades then just getting a 939 thats discontinued.
Smart move is AM2. Smart OCing is done by Biostar. Super cheap. DFI bios. Trust me, Biostar Tforces are the way to go. The parts are top quallity. DFI just over prices. I had my 754 for a year. Next thing I'm getting is the same mobo only in AM2 format. And a X2 3500EE. Only 150 bucks. Some nice DDR2 memory and be done with it for along time.
Conroe is nice now, but you'll need to buy a new mobo if you want something better in afew months to a year. How intel is. A AMD board, will last a generation. AM2 will last 2 generations because AM3 uses the same packageing. Its forward compattable.

mATX comes with many compromises.
Happy Hunting.

I might be wrong here , but Gigabyte usually has very limited voltage options.
Don't know about this board , just speculation...
If overclocking is what you're looking for , maybe you're better off with the Biostar Tforce boards. Aimed towards enthousiasts.

I agree. Gigabyte boards have proved to be a risky proposition for me.

I agree with the rest of your statement but have to comment on this. I went through 4 Ultra d boards oc'ing many sc and dc optys and X2. I loved them and will still say they were the best 939 clocking mb. However, the Quality of them is another issue. I can't picture one that is being used for oc'ing lasting 3-4 years. LOL
I have 3 sets of DDR2 so to go to AM2 would just be the cost of a mb. Sounds like the smart thing to do.
Thanks for the replies.

Like with anything, you can tell alot about the quality of something,by the components used. Take a look at the caps used on all of the MicroATX boards available for AM2. Notice only one board is using quality caps (Sanyo)for voltage regulation to the cpu, that being the BioStar TForce board.
The BioStar board is really a no-brainer. Great bios, great quality, alot of options that are only available on much more expensive boards(power/reset onboard).

would a biostar tforce be good for a main pc mobo? I'm pretty skint so can't afford these £100+ boards, its about £60 over here for the biostar.

which biostar?
Gigabyte has hidden voltage option ctrl+f1 to unhide them

Simple answer. Most MicroATX Am2 mobos use Nforce 410 value chipset. This the best one that uses Nforce 430: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813128009

The only other one that uses Nforce 430 is the Asus one, which isn't an enthusiast board, has a crap ADI Audio chipset that no one uses anymore and will not oc as high as the Gigabyte.
Happy Hunting.

Hi Perkam I´m trying that Gigabyte board. Indeed is a great product, but it has no overclocking options, but with our golden 4000+ we still managed 2600Mhz using clockgen.

somebody had 6100-AM2 and complained that the BIOS overclocking options are very very limited, can't even change the cas latency lol!

What about this EPoX (http://www.epox.com.tw/eng/products_content.php?ps=427) board?
