Now I don't expect such a thing as pulling the aluminum cover off the CPU to make my processor as cold as ice, but I was wondering from everyone's experiences if it is hard and or worth it to H20 a naked CPU?

First of all it`s not aluminum. It`s nickel plated copper :)
Taking HS off Intel is a hard work cos it`s soldered on (have to heat it up to take it off). For AMD all you need is a sharp blade and non-shaking hands :D
And of course all OC depends on particular CPU you have. But you`d definatly see some improovements in temps or/and clocks.
BTW some HS may not be that flat and taking it off (or just lapping) can improove results alot.

Don`t forget that removing the HS you loose warranty

naked cpus are the way to go if you're serious about close contact with your core ;)
I'll be stripping my ihs off shortly, hope my hand doesn't shake much, maybe i should not drink
a gallong of mountain dew before i do it :p

Yeah I lose warrenty by overclocking alone. Anyways, I've never had any issue with CPUs going bad, unless its my fault. hehe. :)

I need to do some more reading into it before I feel more comfortable about it. But knowing me I will end up doing it.

I'm frustrated by my temps because my 3000+ orleans is at 1.55v, 2.844ghz and on swiftech h20 dual rad, 2, 120mm fans on 12v adn my temps are 38/45C when the ambient is 24C. :S . I mean maybe its the program I'm running to test the temps, but I'm not sure.

I ended up lapping it for now. I'll try the naked CPU thing when I have money to fix any mistakes I may do. hehe.

Thank ya'll.

I've done this with a couple A64 CPUs, very minimal gains.

I wouldn't do it again.

Of you wouldn't you're skeptical. :) .

I am glad I did in this case because the IHS was NOT flat and was actually scrapping into my heat sink...... Anyways heres a picture of the lapping.
