Very nice job, coolaler. But kyosen actually has the WR in 4M. ;)

His memory is surely running at a kick-ass speed, but he is also at a 500mhz lower CPU clock. Your 4m result is incredible, but maybe it needs some tweaking looking at Kyosen's time !!??
Can you list the tweaks you did (if you want to)? Maybe we can give you some tweaks to shave off half a second or so. Then you can take the WR back with a fair margin ;)

What is sad is my Athlon 64 3000+ Venice @ 2.7 gets 34 seconds in SuperPi 1M.

what tweaks?
I don't think so, intel and AMD are totally different tweaks:D

Well, I'd just would like to know how kyosen, scored a better 4M at a clockspeed of 450Mhz less than coolaler. Both were using C2D.:confused:

I don't think so, intel and AMD are totally different tweaks:DSo true...but he's nearly 500MHz faster than kyosen (~10%) and a split second slower :eek:
That speed is just incredible though, DAMN.

Its just not the CPU core clock that determines the result in SPi4M - memory performance comes to play also.
kyosen = 468FSB 1:1 CL3-3-3
coolaler = 397FSB / 496RAM CL4-4-3
They may also be using different boards (kyosen is using the fastest ASUS board).

Amen, FSB speed plays a big role in SuperPi times. You're better off running a higher fsb and a lower clock speed then vice versa. Memory timings are important also. That's why my E6600 can only hit 14 seconds in 1 mil at 3.8Ghz because I have to run my mem at 4-4-4-12. Once I have the money for some DDR2 1000 with good timings I could see probably low 13's at the same speeds.

I'm quite surprised how high you guys are pushing the FSB. I would have never imagined Conroe would be so FSB dependent considering how it's supposed to be less FSB dependent (I think L2 cache snoop doesnt use FSB or something along those lines). So, I really gotta wonder, what's all this FSB bandwidth being used for while running SuperPI?
Big congrats for sub 1min SP4M!!.. thanks for running it.

i have a different question
1m spi means the computer calculates 1million digits of pi and 4m means 4 million is that right?
if yes, why does it take about 6 times longer to do 4m and not 4 times? i mean its about the same speed (something like 5.1 vs 5.2 or so)
is it the bigger dependence to the memory or something like that?
thx

its partly to do with the cache size, 1M calculation can be held in around 3MB, so fits in a conroe's L2 cache. which obviously gives a huge speed advantage
and secondly to do with the maths involved, the interations take longer than the expect 4 times to complete.

Actually the 1M calculation time doesnt change much at all with faster memory when you are running a 4MB Conroe.
You need to do 2M or bigger to see the benefit from faster memory.

Awesome chip - Conroe scaling is incredibly strong in the pi calcs.
