^ Can it be done? I would like to take the nb passive heatsink off my board when it comes, and replace it with an aftermarket nb cooler, or possibly water cool it in the future. Can this be done, or will i have to take off the mosfet cooler too, since there like.. connected to each other and all. Would it be safe to have nothing cooling the mosfets ?

you need to replace the mosfet cooler too (some are suggesting vga ramsinks might work). Or you could cut the heatpipe and leave the mosfet cooler (though that would obviously void the warranty). (While just replacing the nb cooling what also likely void the warranty it wouldnt be quite so obvios and asus would likely have less of a problem replacing the board then if you cut the stock heatsink).

i just put a 120mm fan between the vga and cpu HSF to cool the NB

Hm what heat sink should I buy for the mosfets (if not the VGA ramsinks you suggested)?

And a newbie question: Do the heatpipes contain any hazardous substances or is it just plain copper?

You could get one of these for the NB .. seen a couple other people already using them.

Yeah, thats what i was thinking of using... but not if it voids my warranty =/

It won't void your warranty if your not damaging anything..

Ya, if you take off the NB heatsink and slide out the pipe from the Vregs HS and don't damage anything you should be fine ... If i do keep this board (depending on price of P5B D), i will probably get one of these also, the NB is just to hot.

another option is to get a 40mm-50mm fan and zip tie it on. It's a good option because the heatsink itself is quite good after you peel off that gold piece of metal over it. Then you won't have to worry about warranty issues and dismantling the heatpipe to the mosfets.

No pin holes .. so i don't think that one will work. Also its pretty damn loud (had one for my DFI board) .. you don't want one of them.

I thought the heat pipe wasn't removable, was I wrong?

BTW Silver Bullet, I see that you have both the 716SA drive and the 755SA drive, I had 716SA before and have 755SA. I would like to know how they compare perfomance vise.
