Tried reinstalling windows...6 or 7 times at least, write combining disabled, largesystem cache off, etc. I was running CF just fine a couple of days ago and then switched video cards for a bit in between. It's like my board suddenly lost its capability to run CF?? Both cards are very much alive and work just fine by themselves.
P5W DH
X1900XTX + X1900CF edition, etc
When I got both cards in, CCC only detects the CF edition, and it seems like nothing I do gets it to detect both like its supposed to.
If anyone could shed some light it'd be appreciated...I'm an inch from losing my sanity.

Try running an older driver version. It may fix the problem.

lol...so are you
So far have tried 6.5, 6.6, 6.6 beta. 6.6 is what I used before and it was fine.
Looks like the board is gonna have to go back, though what could cause something this weird I can't fathom. :-/

EVA2000 Fixed it here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=105932
Also made a note of it here: http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/showpost.php?p=178829&postcount=1
Where he says:
Finally got crossfire to work - had to disable write combining and setting LargeSystemCache to 0 for things to work otherwise it resulted in filesystem corruption!

tried swapping them so the master card is where the slave goes, or using the slave by itself in the slave slot to see if either the slave card or slave slot are dead?

He was using it a few days ago NP....then took down the entire system for some DICE (from phase) action and now it's a no-go. (just thought I'd add some more info as I'm in the know ;))
Gautam, pull the battery for ~30 seconds, maybe it's not opening up the 2nd PCIe slot electrically (properly that is)....damn these things *not* being manually jumpered.

Hehe, no kidding. And yes, this was working a couple of days ago. As for the slot being opened electrically, I think it is. I can literally pull the master out, hook up VGA to the slave and alls good. Unless for some reason it decides not to be only when both cards are in?
Thanks for the battery tip though, I'm on it right now. :)

Well at least you are half way there; you can't fire it up and it is making you cross :) Good luck !

I am getting Crossfire today for AMD, do I have to "disable write combining and setting LargeSystemCache to 0" if so, how the heck do I do that? Where are these options? BIOS? DRIVER? I'm confused... :(

those options are probably only for the Intel based chipset and I would believe the options would be in the bios.

Thanks for the responses all, but it looks like something in the board is giving way. Both of the PCI-E slots are becoming very flaky now and I don't even get a POST with them most of the time. :-/ Anyways, props to Asus' customer support, they're cross shipping me a replacement which should arrive in a couple of days.
LargeSystemCache is a registry key. You can also access it through the "system" control panel under the advanced tab. Same with write combining which you can control through the display properties panel, under advanced and then troubleshooting. I don't believe it's necessary for the ATi chipsets but could be mistaken.
