View Full Version : Need help and advice on my 7900GT
I got my 7900GT yesterday and i started overclocking it after a few hours from purchase, already have VF900Cu-Led installed and my core clock only reaches 515 at stock volts details are listed below and some more questions
Its at 55~56 on full load. here are my complete system specs
Athlon64 3700+
Asrock dual sata II
512MB 2x Twinmos DDR400
Inno3D 7900GT
X-fi Xtreme Music
1x 250B WD SATAII
1x 80GB Seagate IDE
1x LG Multi DVD writer
2x 80mm fan
3x 120mm fan
1x stock amd fan blowing directly at heatsinked hot IC's on the backside of the 7900GT
HEC 550Watts Dual 12v ( 12v1 = 18A 12v2 = 17A )
Nothing else is overclocked
PCIe is at 100Mhz
Should i bother volt modding my card, coz from what i see im getting low gains on stock volts and im not sure how much higher volts can help me or are there some cards that really suck at stock volts and shine with added volts?
As for my other question is there similar OSD program for nvidia which is similar to ATI Traytools ? ateast the FPS and GPU temps are shown that shoukd suffice.

I've heard that voltmodding the newer cards is where it's at for unlocking its true potential. Seems like you should be getting a big higher clocks with the stock voltage though. All cards aren't built the same though, you may have one that just doesn't want to go like some others do, most of the time its luck of the draw just like buying a proccy.
Yeah pretty sucky clocks for stock volts, but im wondering if i volt mod would i still get sucky increases or there are these types of card that clock low with stock volts and really shine at 1.4v ? atleast a GTX corespeed is all i ask.
Also im wondering what kind of artifacts or glitches is it core related ? ive only did a testing at ATI tool using 5mhz increments and moving it up after 15mins. it got a pixel error at 520 just about 2 secs after the test start..at 515 tested for 30mins no errors, im aware tho on how the memory shows it glitches. 3dmark03 battle at proxycon is fast at showing memory problems, which other tests in 3dmark are exteremly sensitive to mem and core clocks?
my mem overclock doesnt seem to suck that much.. 780Mhz w/o any problems *YET*

05 GT 1 and 2001 dragothic might be useful for showing temperature problems ..well they were with nvidia 6XXX series. Green flashing triangles were the norm .. not sure with 7XXX series.
Nature in 2001 always locking up either on the approach to the cottage or moving over the trees down to the pond where good to show core problems. Great big huge triangles everywhere showed memory artifacts.
I cannot tell you about pixel errors very much apart from 03 and GT3. I put up with them as they did not upset the score.

Thank you so much for your input. But i dont have 2001 installed anymore nor do i have a copy.
Im not sure what else to look out for the nvidia 7x series as ive been using an ATI card and from what i base my test is usually at 03 battle of proxycon in the starting part where you see those soldiers on the elevator they scene i get a lot of black flashing squares on those when i clocked my mem to high on my old XT-PE and basically a total system lock-up if the core is affected.
