''For frequency, the Core 2 Duo stepping 5 makes it easily possible to reach over 3.4 GHz or even 3.6 GHz with air cooling. But because of the short pipeline it will quickly reach a limit''

well my stepping 4 got 3.7Ghz on air

Good article. So will all retail E6600's be stepping 5?

Stepping 6, according to someone that had some inside info. Very minor changes though, nothing like going from 4 to 5.

wow felt like i was reading a white paper there for the first 1/2 of the article.

very nice results though, i like how the E6600 keeps up with and beats the FX62 at just 2.4ghz :)

Very interesting article, especially the part comparing 2 MB cache to 4 MB, and the DDR frequences and the effects.

agreed
very indepth
a lot of interesting stuff, much better than just a bunch of 3dMark numbers

a little disappointed on the overclocking results for the E6600 though
I was hoping for 4GHz on air

They didn't mention coolers if I remember correctly, so those would be stock cooler results.

Edit: Yes only stock cooling was used for both tests and overclocking.

yes it sounds good, but some people would call this more like an advertising

....

Good review, with a lot of thoretical data, which i like a lot :).Nice to see some of those reviews with actual data on architecture not only about benchmarking.

Also i like the DDR2 comparison and the latency tests.

Well, they did only use a "whopping" 1.4V on the CPU, so it's no real surprise they didn't get everything out of it. Also on the stock cooler.

Wish they had more benchmarks to prove their 2 MB cache -> 4MB cache claims. It is hardly extensive, but better than anything else out there for now.

Looks like they weren't too concerned with the overclocking potential.

yea im glad they had the 2mb to 4mb comparison. i need more comparisons on games and apps that i use. such as CSS cod2 bf2. dvd shrink blah blah. but im fine saving a hundred bucks and getting a 6300 or 6400

I forgot to check what cooler they used.
What is the max vcore that's safe for 24/7 use on air?

Anyone know the same answer to that but on water?
