okies, my birthday is coming up in around a month and i need to start assembling a birthday list ASAP (indeed, i needed to start 3 months ago)
normally, these things are easy for me to figure out; last year, i got my watercooling setup for example. This year, however, its not so easy... I don't really know what i want, so i'm open to all suggestions in the 200-300 dollar pricerange. not necissarily computer hardware, as my system is pointless to upgrade and i'll be too poor to switch platforms for too long, but any electronic gadgetry or something that might be appealing.
Basically, I'm looking for reccomendations of cool stuff to have. I've already got a rock-solid mp3 player and digital camera, so those 2 are out ;)
edit: it'll be my 17th by the way, so nothing too illegal. and not a car. those are expensive ;)

I'm happy to hear you don't want more hardware, its already going to be 2 months before I pass you in dimes.:p:
Look into R/C cars, I remember having a blast with mine. Warning however, that they can get very expensive over time.

what kind of $$ are we talking? a new conroe and the asus board are app $550.00 combined..you will need DDR2 ram of course so that may be a condsideration..

what monitor is on your main rig? An upgrade for that possibly.
If not that, then what input devices do you have? If its a standart mouse/keyboard, ask for a gaming keyboard/mouse/headset/gamepad/joystick/etc

200-300 bucks. I had been wanting to go conroe, but i don't have enough cash of my own right now because my work plans for the summer have thus far fallen throuh. also, i totally lack any parts needed; i'd need mobo, cpu, video card, and ram to make the jump.
@monitors: I got duallie 17" CRTs @ 1600x1200 each that i would trade for very very little ;)
input devices: standard dell keyboard from my first rig and random logitech wireless optical mouse. i have been considering swapping the mouse for a logitech G7 (or whichever one is that nice laser wireless one and all)

monitors: Well I wouldn't upgrade unless your going to spend slightly more, like $350 or so. This is the monitor I bought for that price range:

Input: I would definatley say this is a good gift idea now.
Here is the mouse I bought:

IMO much better than wireless. No signal loss, 1kHz pollng, 2000dpi accuracy. Its like night and day if your coming from a regular optical mouse to laser(wired or wireless), I have not tried the Logitech G5(closest competitor), so I'm a little biased.
The keyboard is more a matter of preference, I bought the logitech g15:

Not neccassary to have the screen and all the extra macro keys, but I use them and find the look cool.

i would suggest a decent mouse and keyboard if you game much. and then you should still have some left for a decent 17" lcd. ive seen 8ms 17" lcds for 150 canadian.

My birthday's in two days, and my god, I'm not expecting 200-$300 worth of things lol.
