I got a pair of skullcandy buds on ebay to use with my mp3 player, the main reason is because they looked cool :D

Anyway, they're just awesome(especially compared to the stock buds), I get uber bass on it, and they fit so well inside the ear

Anyone own one of those expensive KOSS ones? I saw a similar one at the source they were only $14, hax?

the "expensive" koss ones the ones that have an actual "speaker" in them rather than monofilament wires or whatever?

i've been eying (sp?) up a pair of etys or shures for my birthday, but they get kinda uncomfortable after a while from my experiences with other peoples'.

I'll take my super.fi pro 5's over those skull candy's anyday. If you can afford it, shell out like even $60 for some of those new creative buds that are all the rage at headfi.org (forget what they are off the top of my head). You'll be blown away by what kind of sound you can get.

^^ agreed, though this is a huge upgrade for me, always used crappy stock buds. I found a few KOSS auctions on ebay for cheap too, might get one later this year.

Btw, why is the frequency so important? Can human ears even hear things like 20000hz? (teach me i'm ze audio n00b)

No, they're very comfortable and don't come out when I go for a run in the woods, with stock rounded ones they just fall out.

depends how much you abuse your ears. Even being able to hit that frequency might not matter, but it could mean the rolloff point is that much higher or lower to put out say 20hz acceptably where the koss ones might "just" do 20hz and actually only put out 30hz acceptably.

same goes for the high end.

or if you wanna stick with the earbuds how about the cx300?

Btw, why is the frequency so important? Can human ears even hear things like 20000hz? (teach me i'm ze audio n00b)20hz to 20,000Hz is the generally accepted range of the human ear. This of course is affected by environment, age, and other factors. Some may hear higher then 20K....others only to 12 - 17K.

Do songs actually use such a high frequency? There was a speaker test thing to test the output, 17khz sounded so annoying, lol.

tonal harmonics and such of many instruments can be at absurdly high frequencies, and while they're not even particularly noticable they add to the "feeling" of an instrument and thus the music. while the frequencies do seem absurdly high, some of them are only a few octaves above typical instrument ranges.

thrilla, you are young so you should be able to still hear up to around 18khz. you can test this by downloading a tone generator and raising the frequency untill you can no longer hear it. adults normally hear at around 15khz to 16khz max.

personally with the method i noted above i can no longer hear above 15khz, and the sounds become very faint at about 13.5khz.

I got the tone generator from here:
http://www.nch.com.au/tonegen/index.html

Weird thing is, I can hear like every range even 10000000000000.00Hz, is there something wrong with my speakers? At 27kHz it's still noticiable but somewhat faint, and at 30kHz it gets loud again?? Not sure if it's the crappy speakers, I can only go as low as 40Hz.

thats one of the tone generators i use.

what most likely is happening is either your speakers, soundcard, or combination of both are unable to recreate the frequency so they are putting out the closest it can recreate.

if you can only go as low as 40hz with speakers or headphones, its kinda indicating they arent very good at reproducing the frequencies. with my 2300s i can go down to about 22hz and maintain some sound level, and about 33hz while maintaining good strong sound.

That's the crappy speakers I use, if I tune the volumn up I can hear as low as 1hz :D

Thats not real 1Hz, if your speakers could do 1Hz, they could do it at normal listening level

My Altec Lansing ADA885 THX 4.1's can do 32.8Hz strong, 21.9Hz I can still hear it but 32 sounds better. I can hear all the way to about 16.8 kHz, and I'm only 14 lol. 17.8 is just nothing.
