I'm in the process of buying an Abit NF7-S v1.2 mobo and now I'm curious to see if this motherboard will support the new BARTON 400 FSB Cpu's.
Do you think Nvidia will release a revision to the now "on trial" Nforce2 chipset?
I know many of you are running 200+ FSB with this and other Nforce2 mobos, BUT that implies the notion of using high performance DDRAM, which it's nothing new to anyone in the Overclocker community BUT I think, AMD will have to be sure those "approved" mobos could easily run with even generic DDR3200 memory.
Don't you think?

yes it will. you need DDR 3200 to run 400fsb unless you got like oced 2700ram. all generic ddr 3200 can run 200mhz fsb all you need to do is set the timings to real high

Well, I don't know about the High performance ram theory anymore.
You can buy a 256 stick of Samsung 3200 for $45, the nforce2 supports it in BIOS as well.
Te only flaw I can see is the seeming inability of some nforce2's to do 200fsb. Some 8rda+'s need volt mods, and its hit or miss on the Asus and Abit 1.0/1.1's.
The Chaintech is probably the same deal, as is the MSI and Biostar, Soltek and Fic.
If I were AMD, I would drop these plans.
They need a new chipset, and no chipset producers will release another chipset, since the k8 is on its way. The product duration would be too small. Hell, you can still buy kt266a's and AMD 761 boards at Compusa.
kt400a is still in limbo on its stability.
I think there will be some more revisions and that is what Im waiting on now. Either a kt400a or a better nforce 2 board will be needed to do it though. Last I heard the K8 won't be released until September or October this year so there is still plenty of time to milk one more k7 chipset. Plus, not everyone will automaticaly jump over to a 64 bit processor when the hammer comes out. They will need the new chipset for lower end solutions that the XP and Barton will use.

I am just going off history with my beliefs on the chipsets.
After the p4 introduction, their were no new p3 chipsets. Same with the k6. Same with the p4 478 instead of 423.
If you remember, it was more than a year between the nf2 and nf3, and the nf2 was hyped for 8 months before its release. Even if hype started flying to day, the boards wouldn't be out till october.
Via could release a chip, if the hammer is delayed and their kt400a still gets trounced by a nf2 upon release.
Sis might have something sitting around somewhere, but I just don't know.
It will be sad to leave the socket A, I will say that.
The reviews of the chaintech board did 200fsb easy.
A lot of the lesser name boards do 200mhz, but thats the limit in the bios. Thats the trend I seem to see.
I think I'll get the Chaintech NForce2

I think its pretty obvious the nf2 can do 220+ if the mb had the proper nb hs and vdd in bios, we'll see some revised boards to acomadate the barton w/ 200fsb not to mention the improved fab stepping of the nf by the time the barton arrives.
Buff I would strongly recondmend the Abit NF7-S v1.2
