Wait a sec, a 36-shader chip is supposed to replace the X1900XT?

Its the GT, not XT.read the article.

Hellfire 2, Radeon X1900GT at 650MHz core and 1100MHz memory is the replacement for Radeon X1900XT that is supposed to phase out slowly.

I can understand this if it performs the same and is cheaper for ATi to make. If you think about it its not that confusing: it has a different SKU and anybody who doesn't know what the difference is isn't going to notice a performance difference between the two.

this kinda makes sense, ever since I read that the RV570XT would have 256 bit memory @ 1100mhz I figured that it wouldn't be a replacement for the X1600XT

alrighty then...

The RV570XT isn't the X1900GT currently, its a quad cut R580.

THe RV570 core will have similar performance to the X1900GT, but a new 80nm core.

Not always. Sometimes it´s cheaper for them to make, then it´s easier for them to make money :p:

im really holding out hope this chip will clock to the moon and wont put out absurd heat.

if 800 1600 clocks are possible i would get this chip

wonder if the ddr is 1.4ns im thinking yes then 1600mhz oc would be possible but i have no clue on the core

I think the higher clock potential is precisely why it's marketed to replace the x1900xt, as the x1900xtx will be replaced by x1950 (R580 w/ GDDR4). The 128-bit chips w/ 12/36 will undoubtabley be the x1700 series. It's a complete refresh if you count the 80nm x1300's or the fact x1600's will be priced the same as x1300's.

Here's the kicker though...Wouldn't it be funny if the 1.4ns 600/1100 part was the x1900gt(o), and the 1.2ns (or faster) 650/1600 part was the x1900gtx? Don't doubt that possibility for one second. ;)

For the record, The Inq has said this before, it's almost the exact same article they posted months ago...Only this time everyone believes them. :D

Ok, so what does this mean to someone like me who needs a graphics card in less than a month....would it still be a wise choice to go with the x1900XT?

Not always. Sometimes it´s cheaper for them to make, then it´s easier for them to make money :p:Which I think may be the case this time, since profits were so low on the original X1900GT, they may simply use this to make up for that.

So true! 7900GTX is cheap to make, but it's extremely expensive compared to its ATI counterparts!

Actually what I would love to see is some GDDR4 to join the 80nm process and make A KILLER card :D

"The GPU comes with 16 ROP units, which means the chip is capable of handling 16 pixels per clock, 36 Pixel Shader and eight Vertex Shader units. Memory interface is nice and wide 256-bit one. Coupled with 256 MB of GDDR-3 memory clocked at 600 MHz DDR (1.2 GHz), we reach the number of 39.8 gigabytes per second."

http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=32865Now the only question remains...will it be the same price as the current X1900GT ?

I'm guessing it'll just be a straight replacement... ATI won't really make a big announcement and soon we'll have RV570XT cores mixed with R580 cores for the X1900GT lineup.
