View Full Version : Gpu block question

Alright I have a MCP655 pump powering a dual rad + mp-05 sp le. I need to add a gpu block for my x1800xt into the loop. Which block would you suggest? Should I go with something low flow? Will my pump handle a restrictive one?
Thanks.

the best answer is == Read the stickies
a quick answer == yes , get the MCW-60

Maze4 is also a good choice.

Cool thanks. But what about this Silverprop Fusion SL that petra's sells. I really like the look but havent been hearing too much about it. Does it outperform the regulars such as MCW60 and MP1?

It should outperform the Maze4 but I'm not sure whether or not it would outperform the MCW60 and it likely doesn't outperform the MP-1... However, it should have a lower pressure drop than the latter two. See, the problem is that nobody has actually done a good review comparing all of these GPU waterblocks (and Maxxx's test rig isn't up and running yet, that I know of...so, yeah. There have been a few half way decent reviews of the usual suspects but that's about it). In actuality, though, all of the major GPU blocks (Maze4, Silverprop Fusion, MCW60, and AqX MP-1) perform within a few degrees of each other so the main factor to take into consideration would be pressure drop--the lower the pressure drop, the better because it would have less of a negative impact on the overall performance of your loop. It's also good to keep in mind that GPUs are not nearly as temperature sensitive as CPUs when it comes to normal operation as well as overclocking.
*Pssst* Maxxx, I'm not holding any of the Silverprop GPU blocks but I am holding a CPU block for you... so, if you want one of the GPU blocks, let me know before I run out. :stick:

Only one review of Maze4, MCW60, and MP-1 since you can get those in US and Silverprop Fusion is hard to get in US also I heard Silverprop Fusion has problem mounting for newer cards, wonder why don't they update their mounting hardware?

Well, it's not that the blocks have issues mounting to newer cards.... There's no compatibility problem, really, as they'll fit on pretty much anything with mounting holes :rolleyes: . It's just that the included hardware is a bit of a pain in the a:banana:s to work with (which is why I usually end up adapting and/or combining DD or Swifty mounting hardware with the Silverprop stuff to make for an easier, better mount).
EDIT: and, sdkevin, they're not hard to get ahold of in the US so long as I have 'em in stock :p:
EDIT (again): The reason that they haven't updated their hardware is because supposedly they are working on a new set of CPU and GPU blocks that'll also have more DangerDen/Swiftech-like mounting hardware... but I haven't heard much of anything from Jeremy since the end of last year. So, I'm really not sure what's up over there...
The fusion is a nice block, but as others said, it is very hard to mount. Using the DD mount kit makes the installation easier.
Silverprop is not hard to get anymore www.petrastechshop.com has them :)

Silverprop is Australia Production so it takes some time to ship to US (Petra Shop) just like ThermoChill, you have to wait for awhile for its to get back in stock also expensive but block is leak free so you don't have to wonder do I need teflon tape or o-ring for the barbs :) worth extra money right there!

I second that. Ive installed a mcw60before. Nice block all around. I dont like the plastic fittings however but that can be bypassed by ordering new metal barbs.

I run X1800 Crossfire and I happen to have one Maze 4 and one MCW60. The MCW60 runs about 1-2C cooler @ idle (36C Maze 4/34C MCW-60) but they both run the same load temps (around 45-50C depending on ambient temps). The difference is negligable at best plus the Maze 4 is the last block in the loop AND on the Master card. I do like the mounting setup on the MCW60 much better as it does not block the slot about the card unlike the Maze 4. In my opinion, 2 great blocks but the MCW60 gets the win with the better mounting brackets and slightly better performance. You really can't lose with either.

I am using a Silverprop Cyclone Fusion that I got from Petra's on my 7800 gt. I bought a DD maze4 mounting kit to mount it because stock mounting for it really does suck. I run my card at 550/1.2 @ 1.5v and get about 27C load. my whole wc loop is storm, bip2, silverprop cyclone fusion, d5, swifty micro res. It's a good block, I would go for a Swiftech MCW60 or maze4 because of price.

so would any of you say it'd be worth ordering two Silverprop Fusion SL gpu blocks to replace these MCW60's? mind, I am sort of going for aesthetics here, and might be replacing my Storm Rev.2 for a MP-05 SP LE as well, for various reasons, No. 1 being aesthetics, No. 2 being an appearance of higher quality, No. 3, that I might be setting up another PC with my current setup as well, I was just wondering, would there be any performance gains as well with these replacements? That would be the clincher.
