Gigabyte 7950GX2 Review..by GAR

Hey, i recieved my new card today, the 7950GX2 after having 3 bad 7900gtx's.....stay away from that card, its bad....anyway, i decided to benchmark this system with the specs i have listed below, this is a very small card, i know in pictures it looks big, but its the same size as a 7900gtx preety much, when i put them side by side they were almost identical in size. Also check back as im going to overclock this baby to see what it can do, here are the benchmarks.......

System used
CPU - AMD ATHLON 64 X2 4400+ @ 2.75ghz 1.58volts (11x250) w/ TT Big Typhoon
Motherboard - DFI nF4 SLi-D [4/06 BIOS]
Memory - 2GB (2x1) G.Skill Extreme HZ @ 3-4-3-6-1T @ 250mhz DDR500
Video - Gigabyte nVidia 7950GX2 1024mb
Sound - Creative Sound Blaster X-FI, Logitech 5.1 Speakers
Hard Drive - WD Raptor 74gig, Seagate 200gig, Maxtor 200gig, Maxtor 120gig
CD-Rom 1 - Memorex 16x DVD Burner
CD-Rom 2 - Memorex 52x CD-R/DVD combo
Power Supply - Enermax Noisetaker 600W PSU SLi Cert.
Monitor - DELL 2005FPW 20.1 Widescreen LCD
Drivers used - 91.33 Beta

I think it needs better cooling for vmod, with a vmod this thing will easily outclock the 7900gtx and out perform it......for $250-300usd cheaper....seems to me like nvidia just lowered the volts on the gpu and memory, as the gpu is at 1.3 volts and memory is at 1.92.....on the gtx gpu is at 1.4 and memory is at 2.12.

nice scores for stock cooling and Volts
now overclock it, a small VGPU mod to 1.4v would help you a lot;)

Hmm, that's only 100 over my XTX in 05.. have you done any BF2 / fraps tests at all? Or perhaps DOD-S ?

yeah in other reviews with systems similiar to mine they score about 127 in aquamark3 and about 38k in 3dmark01.......any idea on wut might be the case, i mean 3dmark06 and 05, 03 look good.....anyway.....i need better cooling for this card, temps go over 82c but its summer thats why......freakin hot in Los Angeles..... cant wait for some air coolers to come out for this thing.

That's a nice frame rate in FEAR for such ahigh resolution.

If nvidia are doing a card similar to this when G80 comes out I might get one for my gaming rig.

Thanks Andy......I'm liking the card so far, this should keep me good intill g80 is out, then i'll probably put together a conroe system :] with a g80.
