How did some people get these free CPUs and motherboards sent to them from Intel? That's awesome!
You must be a Reviewer with a good credibility I think.

i||uSi0n^Somewhat, but no one was specific. All they said was you need connections. But how do you get connections? How does Intel decide who to send them to? They browse forums and pick people that are good at overclocking or??

there is a recent previous thread here...plz search/read

Like someone else said, you need to work for intel, know someone who does, work at a legit review site/mag, or just know where to buy them. Don't expect someone to post a step-by-step guide or something:p: .

when it comes to getting things before they are released for sales, it is purely about how connected you are or who you know.
or your a bad a$$ reviewer / well known

ES for dummies!
Just do the following steps:
1. Open the Yellow Pages and search for a developer.
2. Call him and say you know him from school (Alias: Jon Smith).
3. Ask him "Wazap?!".
4. Ask a sample of the latest ES.
5. After ignored, go to XS "For Sale" and buy one. :fact:

why would u want es chips?? umm retails r like stepping 5 which is like the best es stepping out there.. better oc
I'd go with aqua. ES aren't final revisions, so I think it might be harder to unlock their full potential anyway.

Still, these are hard to pass up when available for the picking.
Being so close to launch now, I don't know why anyone would still pay for a non-retail chip with a poor(er) stepping.
I'll snag all I can for free though - display machines have expensive tastes. :D

I have been frankly disappointed with the For Sale section with lack of CONROEs, not allendale or any other chip, but Conroes.

I'm disappointed that I can't even view that section... how many Conroes are in there now?

no conroes are in there. im still shocked by some of the prices for the allendale's. eh when i finally got in there the allendales were gone, for the price i saw after many drops. I would have gotten one, Had i had a conroe ready board.

How much were the Allendales going for? And do you know about the Conroes?

couple Merom for sale if that counts

I just made the 100+ post requirement to gain access to the For Sale thread here in XS. I bought a Conroe 6700 ES and Merom 7400 ES for a pretty penny. I'm actually embarrased to say. I don't have any connections to anyone. The Merom 7400 is about to find a home in my Acer 8204 laptop which crazily has Merom support in their new BIOS.

How valuable was the pretty penny that you spent? Just curious...

Some of the Conroe for sale threads were taken down, but those of us that were looking for one know who to contact by now.

The 6700 ES was a few hundred more than what retail will be. But when you think that what I paid is still hundreds less than a FX60 it becomes much more reasonable.

I honestly don't have any idea if ES sales are illegal. Considering the fact that if they were given out as free samples, I can't see how Intel would expect people to not sell them and make a ridiculous profit. Instead of engineering samples (ES) they could have ES leases which need to be returned in X amount of time.

If Intel leased their ES chips it would make their company look bad (compared to AMD, who would continue to hand out ES chips) and would probably make a lot of important and "famous" overclockers angry

well, if the ES chips are anything like the chips my friend has (his 3.4C ES with no barred multiplier so he could have multiplier of 200 if he wanted), then it might be very valuable. Aren't varying multipliers why people want ES's?
Theta
06-27-2006, 09:10 PM
ES Conroe chips are multi locked. Only ES X6800s are unlocked.
People simply want these chips before anyone else for bragging / ePenis rights. ;)

There are Conroes up for grabs (well, there were a days ago). You just have to keep your eyes open :)
Didn't want to open a new thread, so here it goes : is there a retail conroe pictured anywhere ? All i've seen are ES's, and official launch day is in like... 3+ weeks time.

FS section is for people who don´t have connections ... :D
and often not cheap ...

with connections its also not really cheap
I fail to see how spending $1000-1500 for the fastest two-core CPU/mobo combo in the world can be overpriced, even if somebody makes a profit. It's cheap, that's what it is.
