It looks like you can only have 3 SATA drives hooked up to this board. I wonder if the other 2 SATA connections that are called "Asus EZ-Backup" that are ment to be used in RAID could be used for anything else like a SATA DVD burner?
btw will this board run nvidia cards? I guess it will just not in SLI?

it will run nvidia cards, just not SLI (unless u get the hacked drivers :))

Hacked Drivers are all you need for SLi.
Youll get full performance.
XFire is natively supported.

P5W DH is designed to be crossfire native board , but you can also run a 7950 GX2 if you prefer Nvidia as Cornerjack did .
:)
by the way where do you find those hacked drivers ?

Thats good to know. I never have been a fan of ATI. Nobody knows about the SATA?

Unfortunately I can't tell you because I'm not using SATA with the board. And the manual is not very helpful either. There's also a sixth SATA connector on the board, over by the I/O area. That's for configuring RAID with an external device.

Intel ICH7R South Bridge:
*1 x UltraDMA 100/66/33
*3 x Serial ATA 3.0Gb/s with IntelĀ® Matrix Storage Technology with RAID 0, 1, 5 support
Jmicron JMB363 controller
*1 x UltraDMA 133/100/66
*1 x External Serial ATA 3.0Gb/s (ASUS SATA-on-the-Go) and 1 x Serial ATA 3.0Gb/s with RAID 0, 1, JBOD support
Silicon Image 4723 Hardware RAID controller (ASUS EZ-Backup)
*2 x Serial ATA 3.0Gb/s with RAID 0, 1 support
*Support RAID 10 cross IntelĀ® ICH7R and Silicon Image 4723 controller
So that means you have 3 total individual (Non-RAID) SATA ports for DVD/HDs. 3 are on the ICH7 controller and 1 is on the Jmicron JMB363 controller but its for raid somehow?

3 SATA ports don't seem like alot. After all this board is supposed be a multimedia board right?

7 how do you figure? I only count 3 and 2 that are to be used as "Asus EZ-Backup" in RAID. I think theres one on the back for eSATA? so you could say 6.
But i don't use RAID. My original question was could you hook up a SATA DVD drive to one of the SATA connectors that are ment to be used for RAID.

I think the question I am trying to figure out is how many individual non-raid sata ports are there? So how many INDIVIDUAL devices can I connect to the board internally?

Ive recieved my asus today, put it all together but its not posting. It powers up, fans spin etc but no picture and no beeps except for one occasion which was one long continuous beep non stop. The power light is red too instead of its normal green.
This is with an E6600 ES step 5, could this be a bios problem ?
Any ideas ?
I heared they are locked to Stepping 5 only in bios, yet my ex misis is running a stepping 4 in her's the jammy sod

You need a new bios to get support for stepping 5 "c1?"
You can get it here (http://bios.pajper.net/0065.rar).
Might take a minute or two because I just created the subdomain so it needs to be registered.
