dri ice? or ice water?:D
if DI, then I think Guess2098 did that before.
I might do 2 days later, I have PCICE cascade results 1.45v@ 4250mhz though;)

let me rephrase that, extreme cooling/DI/ln2/Phase. Most of the overclocks are on air that i see. Wondering why not many others are thats all, want to see how far these babys can go:)

Disabling 1 core would gain another 80Mhz :)

But If I remember right, MSI bios didn't have this option yet.

I'm curiuos what the speed feels like, what does a 4.1ghz conroe feel like in comparison to an opteron @ 3ghz..3ghz was blazing I find it hard to imagine 4.1

Hehehe....stepping 5 is taking off. ;)

The chip I have is only FSB limited. I think I could get to 4.6-4.8Ghz AT LEAST with my single stage cooling if the MCH could run that high. Since 440 is about as high as the FSB can go stable with stock voltage maxed out, that's as high as the CPU will go with the 10x multi.

4GHz on air with the Conroe will continue to be the norm....we are going to see some great overclocks when these appear. :)

Chips like 6600 and 6700 (not even mentioning lower-end ones) might be getting FSB-limited even on air on current boards.

did someone said B1 stepping?? but it can be rev B1, stepping 4 .. then its not as good as rev B1 stepping 5. anyway is retail, B1 stepping 5?? or B0 stepping 5?? or something else??

freecableguy
06-25-2006, 01:06 PM
A1 = step 1 (shows as "A4" on the IHS next to the ES)
B0 = step 4 (some of these, E6400, E6600 also sometimes show as "A4" on the IHS)
B1 = step 5 (may be retail version, early version of CPU-Z 1.34.2 show this as "C1" which has been changed)
B2 = step 6 (speculated to poss. exist as retail)

Notes:
step 2 - 3 were internal only
"A4" on the core has nothing to do with actual core stepping

How many boards have you tested this chip on, cooaler? Is the MSI a better board than the P5W DH or Infinity?

I just also received a Stepping 5 E6700 and I'm hoping for 4ghz on air with a Zalman 9500. I will post results within the next few days. I sure hope these Stepping 5's are similar if not the same as the initial retail release.

dsable core doesn't need to use bios to do so;)

I know :) But I have not investigated if it has the same effect as using /NUMPROC switch for windows or maxcpus in linux since you still have all cores before loading OS. I am looking further to see if you can disable core 0 as opposed to what bios does.

Please enlighten us.:)

coolaler your threads always prove something. If it's not a WR, it's a Kentsfield ES and this time a 4ghz Conroe on air as FCG predicted  If all that doesn't make you a Xtreme Legend, I don't want to think what the other Legends had to do to FUGGER... :D:D:D

And El Snorro, beautiful sig. :DWell yes a 7950 is a single [connector] card, but it's 2xGPU. Of course that doesn't stop the result from being impressive, and surely the Conroe helps the card[s] :)

this doesn't disable a core, just causes Windows to ignore the second core. it is still active, just idle.

so we have all these E6600's and E6700's doing ~4GHz on air. what about the lower models, like the E6300 or E4200? will they basicly max out the FSB on whatever board they're on, or will they make roughly 2.8-3GHz? (roughly same % overclock)

I just got a Yonah laptop from work. It does 1m pi in about 34 seconds. The X2 gets that at about 2.6Ghz. The surprising thing is its a stock 2300 (1.66Ghz).
