Hey, hows it goin everyone, i am once again frustrated by my 2nd 7900gtx card from Gigabyte.....they both died after one week, died meaning they get artifacts in 3dmark06 deep freeze test......i honestly cannot believe nvidia has messed up this bad, first this and second with their new 91.31 drivers, wow total garbage....is anyone else having these messed up 7900's.......ive gone through 2 of them, and gigabyte probably thinks im messing them up myself to get a new one.

Here are some screen shots...............

Is it right near the end, it artifacts and then slows to like half of the framerate?

If so, yes, I got that on my 7900 GTs... just need to downclock the memory a bit. If it is happening to you at stock then yea, definitely not OK ;)

2 x 7900GTX from EVGA here.....1 good (for now) 1 bad....on its way to RMA land.

my evga 7900GT is in RMA process as well. Look @ their forums and you'll see hundreds of people having the same problems. 7900's are flunks and should have never been released. I'm hoping I get a good 7900GT the first time and not have it take 5+ RMA's like alot of people have done.

7900s arent flunks, it was the PCB design.

Damien
06-23-2006, 08:44 PM
Yeah, and almost all of them were faulty. What part of that isn't a flunk? :P

The 7900 chips were fine, excellent actually, it was the PCB engineer who flunked, there IS a difference.

Don't be so picky, I'm talking about the 7900 boards. The chip is on the board, and the board sucks, therefore it sucks. :P

anyway you put it nvidia did something wrong, they should have tested them further, the only thing is these cards usually fail after a week or month, some in a couple of days, i dont know but this has to be bad for nvidia.....im probably gonna get an x1900 instead for my RMA, i dont wanna go thru this cr*p again!

Whoever designed it screwed up or at least the guy who decided to put on some crap caps..
nVidia is responsible in the end as they had to test those cards extensively prior releasing the design for mass production.
Now if the design was good and the initial cards were ok (judging the cards used by Kingpin etc) they must have changed those caps cause they weren't available or cheaper..

Either way.. they ok'ed either a crap design or replacement of other caps... you cannot hold that to anyone but nVidia..
So in short looking at the 6800 fiasco.. they screwed up twice and above all lost a lot of customers to the red side who they have been trying to defeat for a long time..

Competition is a :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:....

honestly i love nvidia but i think imma go with ATI from now on.....this is unbelievable from a $500 product, to go through so many....and for the company to not even admit it, is even worse, ive heard of tens and thousands of people having gone thru atleast 2-3 cards and what does nvidia have to say???? nothing, this has really made me against nvidia, when a company puts out crap like this......first these dead cards, then those B/S excuse for drivers the 91.31, unbelievable.

And you can have peace of mind knowing that if it ever happens to an ATi card, you will never get an RMA with their crappy warranty policies

I always get my cards from gigabyte, and they always replace them.....not a problem, weather it ATI or nVidia......and for the 91.31 drivers, install them for yourself and see, people with 7900's getting bsod's and a crappy control panel, even worse then ati's

Well I had 2 7900GTX pack up on me, both of the absolutely stock. I was impressed with their 7800GTX but after the 7900 fiasco I'm going back to ATI for a good long while.

BTW my last 7900GTX did some weird things. On booting into windows it would be fine but it would start to artifact during 3D Mark 2003 and at the end of the run the screen would go black every few seconds as though the card was resetting itself. This wouldnt stop till I rebooted the PC.

Imma see if Gigabyte will let me pay the difference and get a 7950GX2....if not im going with ATI for sure.

Yeah man, more 7900gtx's than GT's from what i see, they go bad after a week or so, some in a couple of days, some take up to a month, but most of em go bad, thanks to some bonehead in nvidia.

no matter what manuf. you choose, even if it's Reebok, Adidas or Durex.. they are ALL the same, but with a different sticker on the fan!! :bananal: (GOD, i love this smilely!! :D)
so if there is(was) a flaw in the PCB design, all of them will have it else if you are 101% that the BFG aren't following that reference design ;)

Yep, PCB is totally flawed.
I just got back my 7900gtx's the week b4 and this is my 3rd set of xFx 7900gtx's.
This set that came back ran 750+50gdc with stock vgpu &
mem. seem to be arti free upto 925 with no vdd mod.
So, far they did well considering I did not vmod them. :)

@ GAR, I would get ready for an RMA with that artifact card. :(
