View Full Version : X6800 @ 5040MHz
Got a new bios from ASUS yesterday, tested it on my 3D disc and 450MHz + works fine. No multipier change yet though. This is with 1.73V and -125C ("coldbugs" @ -128C). Some 1M optimized runs coming today. Had a run at 461MHz FSB, 5073MHz (10.199s). But windows got corrupted so I couldn't save the screen shot.

No it's a X6800 but the ASUS bios for P5W DH have a few bugs, you cant change higher then 11x for example. The latest bios I got has a bug where you have to reboot twice to set the vcore correct, else it will just reset to default.
TAM is at around 1.1xx if I remember correctly?
The ASUS board is slighty better then bad axe clock vs clock so with a spi optimized OS I think sub 10 is in reach. If I get a bios with 12x I'm pretty sure I could go higher then this. DFI Infinity board coming on monday.

Correct. It has been buggy from time to time. I think it may be a corrupt bios. The new bios I did some strange things ang would reset the vcore or the complete bios. Will try to hotflash the bios maybe.

He may have misspoke. Micron no longer produces Fat Body chips, i.e. D9DQT and D9DQW. Perhaps he's talking about older model G.Skill.
D9 and Fat Body are not necessarily one and the same thing. D9 in and of itself has little meaning. It's just Micron's code for DDR2.
Sorry to hear about your board, Kinc.

Yes, I realize that D9 fatties aren't made anymore and D9 is Micron's simple term, but it is possible that G.Skill got ahold of some D9 fatties before Micron discontinued them and G.Skill decided to hold them back from release due to lack of future supply.
I too am sorry about the board, Kinc. What caused the board to die, do you know?

I'm confused.
So, did any0ne manage to change multiplier with CPUID?
The special BIOS that lets you go past 450 fsb that you got from ASUS was obviously only for the P5W.. If you go with DFI Infinity wont you be back to the 450fsb limit?

The DFI Ininity board has a range up to 533MHz FSB and the multiplier should work correct on that board. The default voltge support for memory, chipset and cpu is also really good. The benching will be on halt for a few days until the DFi board gets here. Stay tuned :)

My thoughts exactly....
Btw: is the thermal shutdown/throttling sequence housed in the CPU, like it is with AMD? It most likely is. But if the signal comes from the motherboard it might be possible to isolate the pin responcable for carying the signal. Someone need sto take a look at the pin-out of Conroe at intel.com (if it is present already).
The sequency is probably started in the CPU, so this piece of information is 90% useless........

The tempsensor can only sensor a range of 256 numbers. Often -128 to +128 is choosen as a range ;) Anything below or above these numbers will give stange values that can cause the system to shut down (below -128 could be read as +128 for example, and the thermal protection will kick in).

sorry i am missing it, what is the significance of 256?
8bit signed int goes from -128 to +127 if I recall.. but, that still doesn't explain the shutdown at <(-125c). Internally, the thermal diode has no idea what -128 is, and some gain and offset are used to calibrate and measure the actual temperature..
Any thoughts Alexio?

AFAIK, that program uses ICS954123 and ICS954557.
Maybe it's possible to try to chose one of them in the latest ClockGen and see it if works.
ICS954123 works s kinda. It will set FSB in a 33MHz interval. But you have to try where you wanna put the slider since it sets the FSB pretty much randomly. But then I havent tried it that much, could work if you know where to put it. With 0504 or the latest beta I find it easy to boot at the desired FSB. I have to run at 1.78Vcore to be able to run 460MHz, 458MHz works at 1.73V. Kinda scared of going over 1.8V since I got less fsb oc any higher then 1.78V. When pushing the FSB this high memory oc/perf takes a seriuos beating also.
When ideling in windows -125C is the limit, colder then that the system will hang or shut down.
Need to be able to use the 12x for a shot at sub 10s.

I discovered same thing about ICS954123 and Asus board. I also tried other PLL's, but got even stranger readings. SetFSB for P5WD2 Ultra Version 1.5a2 works, but only up to 410MHz. I noticed none of kyosen's screens show Clockgen, so maybe he's using something else. I'll have to ask him. I think it's just easier to set FSB in BIOS and pray that it will boot into Windows at the speed you want.

When ideling in windows -125C is the limit, colder then that the system will hang or shut down.
Need to be able to use the 12x for a shot at sub 10s.
Ok, I need to try adjust FSB from BIOS then with P5W-DH Deluxe. 410 MHz FSB works fine 1:1 with 5400UL (4-3-2-8) without any modifications. Tomorrow I'll add Vcore, Vmem and VMCH mods and see how it turns out first with dry ice and then with LN2.
I also have Intel 975X (rev 304) motherboard here which has higher multipliers open. I already did Vmem-mod today to it but then started playing with P5W-DH Deluxe. I'll try it later.

You need 1.72Vmch or more to run higher then 408-410MHz. Vmem mod to 2.8V to those fattys will do alot for the mem oc, especially with high fsb.
Also for 3D I think that the ASUS board is a given before Bad Axe, better room for cooling and higher pciex clock is really important for that little extra.

333 MHz is the max FSB I can set from BIOS, after that system won't even post. With SetFSB everything works great up to 410 MHz. Maybe a strap-option or something but 0078 BIOS doesn't have any options for that?
do you have to boot up @ 266Mhz to get setfsb to work to 410Mhz..?
Iam currently using bios 0065, you guys use 0078..? any changes, where to download?

It doesn't matter if I boot 266 - 333 MHz.. I can set FSB to 410 MHz from Windows. Above 333 MHz doesn't even post.
update:
the new bios 0078 works great here, post @ 419 without problems at all.. Tower 120 cooling.
my ram is holding me back I think..
Ive posted @ 462MHz FSB (462x11=5082) with. It boots in to windows but spi hangs at the 4th loop every singel time. I'm allready at such a high voltages that i dare not go any higher. That's not my style but Intel will order a job and make me sleap with the fishes if I kill this chip ;)
@ Sampsa: Did you you hear from the author of set fsb?
Update: ASUS is working on another version of the bios. This time they will have the right microcode for b1, stepping 5 X6800 so we will be able to use the unlocked multis over 11x.

First run with dry ice and LN2. Not too good contact between container and CPU, also didn't have any insulation.

Is your X6800 fully unlocked or only 6-12 as is displayed on the screenshot of cpu-z ?

I like both boards although both of them needs to be modified to get enough voltages. Intel's own D975XBX appears to show memory bus incorrect when using 1333 FSB setting...
I think my X6800 sample isn't very good since I'm not getting even near 5 GHz with LN2 and 1,72V.. or maybe it's just me ;)

I have a feeling that the problem is not on the user :)
Your chip may not be the most powerfull one , but no big deal get a diferent one and try again :)
For 3d benching what is the best board for you ? Sampsa

Cool, Thx a lot for taking your time to answer :)
Some users on the fora Claims that we should wait for Foxcoon´s version :)
Personaly I dont se any performanc jump on the DFI´s verison.
Better voltage options and so but no records..

DFI's Lanparty version should kick ass with more voltage settings and so on. And Kinc really do rock :D
