Can it be done? It's a P4 2.66GHz, 850E.

If you can identify the clock generator on the motherboard you may be able to overclock via FSB using CPUCool or similar software.

Yes, if you upgrade the case, power supply, and motherboard. Although, at that point it's no longer a Dell. ;)

Dell doesn't let you OC at all I am afraid.
A mobo swap would work, or setFSB, but you need to know the clockgen id.

My crappy HP I got for free has a 1.4p4 on an original p4t (socket 423 baby). I flashed from the HP Bios to a regular Asus bios, it let me hit 1.6 before the pc600 crapped out.

My Athlon 950 still whipped it though.

Hehe,

I have an old hp slot a 700mhz. I was able to get it up to 800mhz before I got tired of it. I should have just taken it apart and unlocked it and then put it in a real mobo and not that asus board that hp stripped down to nothing.

Either hope there is a version of SetFSB (http://www.maximumoc.com/setfsb.html) that will work with your board, or make a Turbo PLL. Those are the options, basically, without replacing hardware.

DELL usaly uses Intel motherboards atleast they did before. So i wouldn't count on any software like setFSB for its clock generator. Probably only possible with building a turbo pll, but its easier to just change the motherboard.
So why bother? Take the cpu, and what ever you want from it replace it with a celeron, cheaper hardware and sell it off as a whole computer.

This method works for the current Dell systems, Dimension 4600, 8300, PowerEdge 400SC. Not too sure about the i850E based MBs, you would need to check the PLL.
