Well, reading IGN.com (http://pc.ign.com/articles/713/713834p1.html) at the end of the letter I saw that they are planing for a open beta in August which is good news considering that this game should rock.:slapass:

Looks good, hopefully it won't come out like BF2 did and be full of bugs!

So does this mean anyone can try it out and download for free, to help test??

"open beta" yes

I seriously doubt that. I'll try the beta, but there's no way I'm handing over $50 for another buggy BF game.

well, those were my thoughts after reading the article.
I'll try the beta. If its not damn close to perfect by the time it goes to production, then f*ck it.
Either way, I wish that another company(besides EA/DICE) would realize that there is a HUGE AND HUNGRY market for a FPS with more than just kill/die/spawn ala CS or UT.

Well, BF2 did have its bugs and all but it sure is fun to play. Plus I think that their support is better than that of a lot of other games... i.e COD 2. I don't know for $50 I got around 300 hours of entertainment which is around 20 cents an hour. GAMESPOT has in depth view of the game (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/battlefield2142/news.html?sid=6153080).

Honestly BF2 is a blast IMO. With the right sound/visual system the games intense as hell. It's been the primary game I've played for a year now.
However, it is buggy

Funny how CS is still the biggest online FPS with the largest cash prizes in tournaments and the most players.

It may sound strange, but CS (not CSS) is most balanced and skill requiring fps up to date, and it is also phenomena that it is mainstream and tournament, not like BF2 which is ONLY mainstream product. And i assume that Bf 2150 (or how its called) will be the same - funny and buggy!

Every time I go to a LAN party, it is full of 16yr old kids stating the same thing.
Mostly b/c there hardware wont let them play games like BF2. (if your sigs up to date, then I think I;ve proved my point)
Not that CS is a bad game, but the crowd of underage fanboys that my mind relates to CS just gives it a bad name for me.
Anytime someone meantions the game all I can think about is kids arguing about who cheated and who broke some ridiculous made up rule(illiegal flashbangs usually).

You got the point there, and quite right except that they do play BF2 :stick: (they are just too upset that there is "not enough transport" ;)
But i wasnt thinking about 16 years (and less) youngsters who sit all day in clubs and flame each other of cheating. I was speaking about tournaments and BIG contests, where money prizes are xxx, xxx$
In CS there is a big differnece between those who are "hey guys, where is my clan??!!" and those who are in some real teams.
I am not a PRO player in CS, simply because i play CSS (not a pro = eye candy lover ":D ).
PS. I know my PC is not up to dae, but dont hit me because of that. :nono: :slapass: :p:

OMG. Its like people havent heared about Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.
Battlefield 2142 WILL be buggy as hell (like it or not), and this demo will be especially buggy since its Beta.
The game uses the same engine as BF2, so its a no brainer. The game WILL BE BUGGY.
BF2142 will be the same thing as BF2, but with a futuristic touch to it. The trailers look verry much like BF2, but they make it cinematic looking so it looks as if each battle will be that organized and exciting  (Its BS, I tell you! :cussing:)
Instead of feeding EA/Dice for their lousy product, lets move on to Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.
ET:QW runs on a enhanced Doom3 engine, which we all know its a very solid engine, so expect verry little bugs.
Check out some of the interviews, trailers, and gameplay footages at gametrailers.com to give you an idea of what the game is going to be like:
http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?fs=1&id=1981
And for actual gameplay footages from E3 06, check out some fan videos from Video.Google.com:
http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=enemy+territory%3A+quake+wars
I think EA/Dice's suden anouncement of BF2142 is probably due to ET:QW.
BF2142 will be rushed mainly to keep Battlefield fans hooked up to the series. Its funny to see how they decide to release a Beta Demo before the release of BF2142 and ET:QW, because ET:QW releases in Q3 06, while BF2142 releases in Q4 06.
Battlefield fans, please consider ET:QW.
Dont give EA/Dice your money!
All they do is release a patched up game with lousy "boosters" and no SDKs!

Yeah. The fun part about BF2 is the maps are enourmous and there are unlimited places to go pretty much.

You're right, until that post I hadn't heard of it.
Thanks for the links, the videos were intruiging.
This is what I was looking for. Competition in this new FPS+wargame psuedo genre.
This kind of competetion is good for us, the gamers. Regardless of who comes out on top, we'll end up with better games overall.
Looks like I'll be waiting for demos of both before I buy either.

Well maybe its different by location.
Here in the midwest USA, I've been to many LANs with cash prizes. Most of them give the biggest prizes for CS.
This is where all the kids come out and show their immaturity.
If pro tourneys in your area are not like this, be thankfull..
PS - sorry for knocking your box, mines not much faster.

Well, I looked at the so called answer to the BF series and was hoping to have something new to play and not to mention so nice to look at. Well, I looked at an in game video and it looked more like a rts than a fps, the lasers looked stupid as hell and the graphics were nothing special. But I guess I have to play it first. BF2 and the buggs, I have over 300 hours of play and have not noticed anything that I can point and say that it was a bug. The only thing is that it does not support widescreen gaming, but other than that it is a pleasure.
Found the video and frankly the interface looks a lot like the copied BF2, strange huh... (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1369584344720769429&q=quake+wars)The other thing is tha unlike BF2, this gameplay seems to be a lot like CS and other fast twicher type shooters. Oh by the way find the video of where they do revives and you are going to laugh your ass off.

Regardless of how buggy the game is or isn't, the important thing is that it is fun to play. As long as the bugs don't get in the way too much, I probably will try out the beta. I mean, its free!
Actually... it depends on whether or not I get a new computer. =/

You still got the piont there! :)
And sadly i must admit that here (in Latvia) we do not often have lan parties and contests. the biggest i can mention is WCG Baltic preliminaries (nothing else comes in my mind). :(
when i was speaking of bigger contests and tournaments i thaught about those where teams are invited by organisers of event or they have won a ticket to it (like WCG, CPL, and other gamers leagues).
PS. @mtl_hed - i am used of being hit because of my rig, so thats nothing to worry about
PSS. Sorry for being off topic!!! :p:

Look at that trailer, then look at the ones for Battlefield 2142. Anyone see anything familiar? Personally, I think that the trailers for Battlefield 2142 are simply smoke and mirrors like the ones for Battlefield 2 were and we can all expect a lousy game with unrealistic gameplay (even for a sci-fi game) where a bunch of people are running around shooting at each other like they are playing Doom 2 or Quake 3.
