Hi

Just got a Abit NF7-s Revision 1.2 and 1 Stick of XMS 3200 512mb of ram.

Also bought a XP 2.4 CPU.

Now everything is stable and works a treat but....

I can adjust the multiplier within the bios and all is well BUT setting almost any FSB ABOVE 133 will cause the machine to go into Powersave mode and not boot after saving the settings - needing the power to be switched off to enable a boot again to put the STD values back into the bios.

What is happening here - am I missing something really obvious on not being able to raise the FSB abve 133..???

Thankyou for any help

Make sure and set the FSB/RAM ratio to 1/1, 2/2, 3/3, 4/4, etc. You want the FSB and RAM speed to be the same. That way you can take full advantage of your PC3200 RAM by overclocking the FSB speed.

Although there have been many tests that show some improvements when you make the RAM slightly faster. I think.....

Not with the nForce2 chipset. There may be some theoretical gains by having the RAM faster, but game benchmarks and real-world apps are faster/smoother/better when the FSB and RAM are synchronized.

With the P4 on the other hand, the faster the RAM, the better - even if it's run asynchronously.

ah thankyou for that - just sort of getting my head around these values and settings - great that you can all take time to help out a new person at this.

Now running at 11x180 and I know that there is a lot more scope there yet - with agressive memory timings

Thankyou

No problem ... that's what we're here for.

Good luck with your continuing overclock!
