View Full Version : Achieving a higher core clock with X1900XTX

It looks like I'm stuck at 700 core, I'd like to hit around 725+ if possible
I've used ATI Tool to set volts as high as 1.475 but it wont do 710 at that level for prolonged gaming.
Have people had success with applying AS5 to the core or something similar?
Anything else aside from watercooling et al that is giving people success?
Thanks :)

with stock cooling you won't achieve that clock

No kidding? Ok... any cooling you can recommend other than water? (I dont have it and I plan to go phase once I leave air, at a latter time)

VF900 is much more efficient at keeping the card cool. The only problem (for me) is its not exhaust. I keep my x1900XTX for 24/7 usage and I prefer that the hotair end up outside and not inside the case.
But you can expect 10-15*C temp drop with the Zalman vf900. Water cooling is obviously much better, but it is more expensive. You can also try sinking the power regulators. Those get really really hot.

Water Cooling is just about the only really effective way to get core clocks high.
I can get my core to around 780... I wish I could reach 800 though :(

Go for water! :)
My x1900xt is cooled by one of those excellent :D EK Waterblocks. Clocks are 783/873.

What type of cost are we talking here? I guess it would make sense for me to finally go water...is it practical to do water on the GPU and phase on the CPU?

Ive got a watercooling for gpu only, had it on my x800@16 pipes but not fitted to my x1900xt yet. You can always run all the watercooling except block outside the case, but it would help to get a big case to start with.

I may try it. What type of watercooling would you recommend?

Wrong...
I have an X1900CF (same as XT) clocked a 729/828 on STOCK volts, with the STOCK air cooler...

1/2" tubing, dangerden gpu block, pump and 120mm radiator. There are alot of choices for pump and radiator, and there may be a better gpu block but it is one of the most versatile (upgradable to latest card). Get some ramsinks for the power circuitry and memory. You can even get low profile maze4gpu blocks for crossfire. I am using a T-piece for filling/purging bubbles, with no resouvior.
Maybe an different gpu cooler would be suitable, like one to cover memory and gpu, they are restrictive but with no cpu block in the loop it would matter. U will probably get different replies if u ask this question in the water cooling section.

than you can consider yourself very lucky :D
i can bench with my card up to 733mhz but that with voltage increase + stock cooler :(

What volts and Cat release drivers Gothr3k? And what do you run 24/7?

Mh,nice card. But don't forget the noise of the stock fan. :D Personally i'm not a silent freak, but to replace the stock cooler it was really worth to invest 80 € for my water block.
Besides the card clocks very nice with it on. :D
I can bench 750 on Stock Cooler no problem and temps are quite good as well.

I am currently at 702/783 on air using an accelero x2 with 1.425v and I haven't reached the max yet. That is running 24/7 and the load temps never go above 61C.

VF-900CU is a freaking POS. I have a new XTX here now instead of my XT and this damn POS runs at 78C with 1.375V.. what a joke.

I had problems with the vf900 as well.

Danger Den Maze 4
GT 360 Rad
1/2" or 3/8" ID tubing
D5 pump
t line, etc
Can all be had at Danger den

for higher clocks... cooling is important but so is finding the right voltages for each card i.e. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=103927 i thought my Gecube X1900XTX hit a wall at 814mhz on mem, after tweaking voltages can hit 868mhz :D

6.3 + chuckpatch
i forgot the voltage, i thought 1.475, not sure
24/7 = 701/846 no voltage increases
