Anyone know if a cluster would give any benefit to folding speed? Is it even worth it?

BTW I just broke 1K

I'm not exactly sure I follow what you're getting at, but the amount of processors and the rated cpu speeds is what determines the speed. 1 client for each processor, so a cluster of procs would have to help, unless they're p/ 166's or less.

Congrats on breaking 1K! :D Do you mean like a Beowulf cluster for folding under a Linux distro?

Hmm, beowulf cluster could in theory work. But from what i know about them they are very complex to set up and maintain.

Gooch: that is EXACTLY what I mean.

Gobbo: Im doing this with my school, we have researched the topic up and down. Now we're looking for stuff to run on it, next week we should have a small 8 node cluster up and running

Wow, good luck with it P0G0!

Let me know how you get on with it :)

When you think about it, the Folding@Home project is already a lot like a beowulf cluster.

If you wanted to run one client on the cluster, I think the client would have to be rewritten to break down the problem into chunks and distribute them. If you just sent a wu to each computer in the cluster, it would be no different than running multiple clients on seperate pcs.
