Just installed xp, running shuttle AK31v3.1 using onboard audio installed drivers from cd. When play cd with wmp it skips and gets distorted. Any idea,s. It plays fine in win2k.

I would use the windows update audio drivers!

the funny thing is the cdrw works fine. and they are on the same cable.

Then I'd look elsewhere. It's most likely not the rom.

This is one of those that is really strange because the dvd player works fine in win2k, not xp. Have loaded all latest drivers.

How old is it? Chylde has been having some very wierd probs with older drives...

Hmmmm....

Swap the drives around and see if the opposite one is now having problems.

yeah I had probs with an old cdrw and now it just died, I figured it was firmware

You may need a better or "newer" set of aspi drivers (http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/drivers_by_product.html?cat=/Product/ASPI-4.70&prodkey=Windows%2BASPI%2BPackage%2B4.70).
