:) Hi, I bought the other day, one of this cards, Its really amazing, but like a lot of people here, and in other forums too, I began to have problems, where Im not able to use the "detect optimal frequency" anymore, after three days and, having teardrops/hungs ups/artifact, etc in Fear or 3dMark Freez Beanch, If I dont downclock my memory card to at least 1080Mhz DDR, So I want to be sure, And get this clear.-
1.- If I do the Volt Mod, on this picture
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/7219/img19173rx.jpg
2.- And put a Heat Sink over this
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/4162/memorymod8jh3mm.jpg

Am I good to go?, Will the error Go away? and will I be able again to Overclock it, with My KuFormula VF1-Plus (43idle/63load), If this is so, please tell me, as it is a relative easy mod, And I will have my card working sooner, than if I have to rma it Or something:clap:

Thank you very much.-

Because you mention "detect optimal setting", I presume you are using Coolbits.
If so, remove your Forceware driver, install it again, but now without Coolbits.
Use Ati Tool or Riva Tuner to overclock and see what it brings you.
If the board does not work properly in the unmodded state, do not start modding it, but RMA it.

Well... it brings the same:

I uninstall all drivers, And use Driver Cleaner to Clean them all, I installed Asus 84.21 and the same, Do it all over again, and installed 84.21 WHQL from nVidia Site and the same, If I run ati tool, at default memory my card, crashes, and all of the known problems (Blinking Desktop, Arctifacts on games, FEAR Crashes, etc etc:nono: , now I have 270 on atitool (580) and that is the only way I can play ALL of my games without problems.-
and here is the thing, I CAN NOT rma, I live in Argentina, so If I want to send it to Asus, it will be 200 U$D only shipping Back and forth, Is almost the same as buying another one and run it SLI with both memorys downclocked.-

So here I go again, As I read in another post on this forum, that he resolved the problem almost on this way, the questions:

1.- Will I be able to resolve my problem with this MOD?
2.- If not Will My card run SAFE and for a Loooong time if I let the memory at 500Mhz
3.- If so, would it be wise to buy another one and go SLI, or should I Wait till 8Series are out and sell mine as a Downclocked Cheaper Version:)

Thank you t7864657:p: for answering So fast the first post, Ill be checking the forums repetedly.-
Thanks Again.-

My experience, for what is is worth, has learned me not to start tuning if the basis is not sound.
Try to sell your board on Ebay together with the original Bill, so someone else can RMA it.
Then buy a new board. Because RMA is a problem for you, buy the best and most reliable board you can get like the EVGA-SS.

I have the Asus too, and no problems whatsoever... but then again, I "only" benched 661 core and 821 mem... I've heard rumors about the memory crapping out at frequencies that are too high (900+)

The problem with the memory is that it doesn't artifact right from the start (at that 900+), but after a few days, it seems 850 is the limit with the memory, any higher will (almost certainly) make the card crap out...

I run 1.4v 24/7 with 650/750 with a Silencer NV5 on it (memory is not cooled because I removed the 'rubbery' thermal pads)

It's fast enough as it is, it's just not worth fubaring the card right now ;)

Well Thanks for the bad news, So the resolution for my problem is to sell it....:(
ok, In the meantime, If i let it at 500, will it run 24/7 long enough?

GarretT:
did you had the problem before? and went away when you did this VoltMod?, Thats my BIG Question, as it is realtively easy to do, I can keep the card, but in case it did not disapear, If I voltMod it, it will be harder to sell it./

Thanks! people!
Max./

Max./No I haven't encountered any problems, I would have sent the card to RMA then ;)
I bought this card 3 weeks ago, I have been reading a lot of information about this voltmod, howto, and of course, about the problems people had over the last few weeks/months with cards artifacting and/or dying...

That's why I decided not to push it too hard, thus 1.4v max... for aircooling ;)

I will definitely NOT mod the mem on this card, the core can take a good beating though, as I've read ;)

Can it be possible to fix it!?, although Im not that Deppress, its sad knowing that you have a Bad product, Now I will flash My bios with 500/500 So I have no problems at all, And if somebody wants to buy it, they have to do nothing more than installing Drivers.-

PLEASE, If anyone on this Forum Have the Card fixed with this Mod, post here, So I know I can begin to Mod it myself.-

Its REALLY Strange and a misterius Thing:confused: , that Nobody knows What is wrong With this Card!?

Edited: Anyone knows for sure, that; if you clock the memory at 500, then you will have no problems at all forever 24/7, Im already in the process of selling it, but I want to be sure, And safe.-

Thanks.-

Now the last one So we can close the case for the time being, If I clock it 500/500 And have no problems, Will it last Long Enough??, for example If I want to go SLI, or sell it.\
Thanks

Alright, thanks man, I will try to call asus, and see, how much will cost me rma the F&*^$ card, I would do the 1.4 mod, as some folks over the guru3d forum, try it and worked, but I think ppl here knows a little more, and nobody is really convinced that will work, anyway, if there is no luck with the rma thing, I will do it, Im not confortable running it at 540Mhz, althoug I really dont know what would be the difference if I pop up the Gpu vcore, with the memory not clocking high...?

Hey, I now am able to press The "detect optimal frequencies" I can go up to 558 on the core and 588 on the memory!!!:D , Whats going on here!!, I know it does not detect 660, wich is default but, could it be that is not broken, and If i do the Mod will work again at at least default?
