I finally got the VF700 I've been waiting on and some copper RAMsinks. Threw them on and was getting idle temps of 38C full load of about 52C. So I decided I was getting good enough temps to do a pencil mod. I turned off my PC and shaded like crazy. When I turned the computer back on, I was getting temps of about 45C idle and load temps in the mid 60s. This huge temperature jump should've told me to undo the mod, but I didn't. I managed to hit clocks of over 780 on the core! I had hardly even pushed it! About 30 minutes after I did the mod, my screen went black. My card is now completely fried. I've got an RMA pending and I should have a new card soon. Just a warning to those considering modding--make sure you have a multimeter.

Yea its known that the 7600GTs die under alot of volts. Have you tried undoing the mod and running stock? BTW its frowned upon you overclocked your card you really shouldnt RMA it.

eVGA's warranty covers overclocking. Don't think it covers volt modding, but I talked to a tech support guy and he said I could go ahead and return it.

did you bother checking the ohms with a multimeter?

pretty much the reason why pencil modding is a bad idea

it seems so accessible and easy, then you forget what your doing, and it dies

cant believe the guy let you rma Oo - you voided a normal warrenty in 3 ways, (changing cooler, oc, vmod)

I don't know if you've ever read the eVGA warranty, but I only voided it in one way. Changing the cooler and overclocking and perfectly acceptable according to eVGAs warranty. Physical modding, however, is not.

heh, frying your card because of a careless mistake due to lazyness when voltmodding really isn't fair to RMA... but its your concience. Its not like we here on the forum are gonna tell you you either way =P

If I had $175, I would buy a new card. But I don't, so I'm just going to take advantage of this RMA opportunity while I have it. Doesn't really bother my consience...besides, I'll be putting down a big chunk of change about a year from now for a new card, so eVGA will be getting my money either way.
