you can put any speed in it you want. The ram will be rated at a higher speed then it will be running at. Ie you not overclocking so the ram will run ddr2-667. If you were ocing you now have the peace of mind knowing what timings the ram will do @dd2-800.
ok, so would that mean i could drop any speed ddr2 into a 975xbx mobo too?
thanks.

yes it does. But keep in mind that 1:1 is typically the lowest ratio for intel motherboards, so if you put in slow ram your fsb will be limited to the speed of ram.
nope, im putting in ddr2 800 from sorsair. with 5-5-5-12 timings i can probably bring it down to 4

i'd go for the $200 dollar g-skill DDR2 800 4-4-4-12....
If you want to run PC2-6400 at 800MHz get a Asus P5WD2(-E)
With the MSI you'll probably have these dividers: 1; 1.33; 1.66
im not getting the msi. im getting the bad axe i would go for the g skill (i actually hate corsair because they arent good oc'ers) but its nothing motherboards manufacturers recommend

Good choice. and I think the MSI will support it just not officially. Would be wierd if they did not.. Oh well you need overclocking room anyway.. And yes I like Asus better...
but no ones one hundred percent sure the p5wd2-e premium officially supports conroe. so im getting the 975xbx and ill try to do the mod to it.
Asus already said it won't support Conroe

Probably not since they made a P5W DH Deluxe with i975x, in this way they can earn more money on selling new boards to those who bought P5WD2-E Premium etc :P
