The real question: Is it rosetta stable?? That is crazy FCG. I never heard of SSE4 before. Is it incorporated in enything yet?
M.Beier
06-02-2006, 05:14 PM
nevermind rosetta for now, we want 05 on SINGLE gfx + on CF, a comparation on that "sucker" would be awesome!
And thanks alot @ picture, its already background on my laptop... On the desktop, there can only be one.... (Aguilera) - or perhaps the person that's known for the advertise your title is refering to Hilton.. =)

I am switching over to B0 now as well.
I also confirmed AW8D does not support Conroe even though tech support will say it does.

I dont think so... THey'll release X6800 along with E4xxx / E6xxx series... E8000 is a "maybee", while X6900 wille be released around christmas, and will be a floop due the quadcore sucker being just around the corner :)
Also, PENRYN, it'll def put one some heat..
So basicly, Intel wont sell any X6800's unless they'll release them to start with...

What we really need is a guy selling the boards as well as the chips - there are no conroe compatable boards in the UK as yet.
Also I see a lot of conroe chips being sold - how do the current conroe prices that we can see, compare to the real retail prices?
I heard that conroe will be only priced $20 - $40 higher than the 'equivalent' presler??

No, Intel says X6800 to launch on July 23, along with the rest of Conroe parts.
Can't imagine where FCG is hearing otherwise... same place he heard Conroe would have HT2 ? :p: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1464342&postcount=69
See here for X6800 launch info:
http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=2547
Also:
http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/06/01/intel_core_2_extreme_demonstrated/
Intel today confirmed that Core 2 Extreme will launch with 2.93 GHz/FSB1066 next month and will be available with 3.2 GHz by the end of the year. At a presentation today in Santa Clara, Calif., the firm also demonstrated an overclocked version 3.5 GHz that, according to Intel, offers "impressive performance."

Don't mean to insinuate anything, and maybe it's just some kinda bug, but I was wondering why your cpuz shot recognizes (or at least displays) the "Processor Selection" field differently than all the other conroe shots from various members?

I think it's got something to do with the Windows installation, i.e. the HAL.
Hmmm....now IIRC, the only other possible HAL that would still allow both cores to be active in windows would be MPS Multi-Proc. If that's the case, the question now becomes why windows would have defaulted to that HAL?
Gautam
06-04-2006, 07:34 PM
I remember trying to force an ACPI Uniprocessor HAL to try to disable a core. It ended up resulting in Windows detecting two ACPI Uniprocessors. Never thought of taking a CPU-Z shot, but that might be along the lines of what's going on here.
It might also be something stupid, like him being the only one without SP2 (or Win2k3). :p:

SP2.... and under processor selection there is only:
CPU #1
CPU #1 (Logical Unit)
Kinda strange... though I have had this processor for over 2 months and the person that I got it from had it a month or 2 before I got it. That might be why.... We got these at a time when hardly anybody at Intel could get their hands on them.
Would it at all be possible to run a SuperPi @ 1m and 32m? I'm curious to see if there's a difference in performance with what seemingly is a much earlier ES than the ones we're seeing right now (although the stepping info isn't indicative of such). Thanks. :toast:
BTW, could you check your HAL for us? Right Click My computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> it should be listed under "Computer".....
EDIT: Wait a sec! IIRC, you description of how cpuz is detecting the other core sounds almost like a hyperthreaded core.....Maybe it IS your HAL ;)

wierd, singlecore+ht? lol, run dual pi 32m, will prove that, i think there is a bug of cpuz.
That's exactly why I told him to run Spi for not only us, but also for him to see what's going on. He says he can't, so we'll have to respect that. Maybe there's some other sort of benchmark or something that he can run which wouldn't be a problem?
well by looking at that SS i bet its oced alot from stock... just guess. if you can answer though. Does the xe do 1333 on default volts or does it need a bump?
I think that's just Intel's Speedstep lowering the multi while Idle.....I'm pretty sure he's running @ default speeds at 1066.
Whats this ??
ROFLMAO!!!! ouch :p:

Yea, that's how Single core with HT would look. I'm betting it's an issue with my board or bios. It's been a while since I worked on desktop hardware but I seem to remember dual core ES chips showing up a bit funky in the bios. Often it would list them as 1 core but 2 threads IIRC.
But I'm wondering what exactly is the difference between YOUR ES6800 vs. the others we've seen here? The rev. and the stepping #'s are identical.....
Understand that... but since the product hasn't launched yet, benchmarks (even at stock speeds) would be going a bit far. Have to restrain a bit. :D
NDA's are lifted - no?

I downloaded Super Pi and was running it. It maxed out 1 thread, when I ran a second Super Pi at the same time it maked out the other thread for about 30 seconds then gave me a error and stopped the second one. Never used this program so I'm not too familiar with it. Any ideas?
i'm thinking your super pi has to be separated into two folders or two different .exe's of pi

Yep...to run dual spi's you have to setup in two separate folders first. Then open each instance and then go to windows task manager. This is where it'll get a bit wierd since I don't know how windows handles "hyperthreaded" cores. You'll have to manally set affinity for each core for each particular instance of spi (at least that's the case with dual cores). I'm not too sure how that will work with a single core + a hyperthreaded core.....

Got it... Thanks. They are both cranking away now. Is there anything that I should be looking for?
Cranking away...but you're not actually testing each core atm...you MUST set affinity ;)

wow that totally skipped my mind, luckily prime95 allows to set affinity through the program.
I just assumed with SUPErPI, it was working correctly since task manager reported 100% load.

The times are not more than 2 seconds apart from each other on the 2 tests.
That doesn't really tell us anything. We need to find someone who currently has another 6800 so you can compare your times to theirs....I know that FCG doesn't have his 6800 anymore (he sold it already) so we need to find someone else......hmmmmm....
HICOOKIE? :p: if you could - please run a dual spi32m for us (and don't tweak out your settings as I'm assuming FLG_Poncho ran @ default timings ;) )

Ok that all is just fine and dandy, but "FLG_Poncho " what we all would like to know is just how much more satisfying is Pr0n on Core 2 XE :D:D
