View Full Version : Conroe - Bandwith
I've been searching around the forum for bandwith results from Conroe. But couldn't find any.
Some say it can only handle 10.6GB/s, while eg DDR2 800 can deliver 12.8GB/s
I'm very grateful to the ones sharing their results.
But I think we've seen enough SuperPi now... what happened with all the other benchmarks?
Everest bandwith/latency, Sisoft Sandra, 3D Mark 03,05,06 with stock gfx, ...
Don't see this as criticism, I really appreciate any kind of Conroe results.
no need to start a new thread
you have seen not enough ..you will find all conroe benches you mention here on xs , in many flavours , so sit on your ...

there will really be a run on those cpus and boards when they officially is out....months before an ordinary man can buy one most likely......and we just cant wait already :)

Results on forum..
But, depends on FSB, when you overclock the mem gets higher freq as well..
But... 400FSB on conroe should be quite easy on most chips... - Combined with CPU:RAM 2:3, thats 600mhz // DDR1200, and that will sure give you a BW that's good, however, AM2 will have higher BW, but I belive Conroe will benefit from 4 mem sticks, due T2 no matter what, and it'll give you 4-way interleave, compared with 2 using 2 sticks...
But please, feel free to check the current threads.. :)

Four way interleave is something I had not heard anything about regading the Conroe. It would certainly be easier/cheaper to pick up 4 sticks of good 512mb than 2 sticks of good 1gb.
Any additional info available on that?

Not cheaper - Im thinkin' of 4*1GB... its around 600$ @ 4*1GB highend PC6400 ram... The kind' that does decent speeds, G.Skill 2GBHZ, Ballistix, SuperTalent =)
humm 4 stick better than 2 ?
Interesting.. could be easier on the wallet to get 2x512 and add 2x512 later

Would be a smart move from Intel. anything to help people migrate over is a plus.
Does 512mb sticks overclock better than 1Gb sticks?

normally they do

Nope, but, old 5400UL's are only in 512MB version...
With all do respect, 1GB sticks clocks atleast as good... 4-4-4-4 @ 54x at 2.4v, random kit - Check the G.skill vs. Ballistix vs. SuperTalent thread in BW section..
But 3-2-2-1, I havnt seen any 1GB sticks doin' that at fast clocks...

I've only seen that on the bensley platform (for servers), which has quad channel memory. I don't think that will happen on conroe. Conroe is more bandwidth limited by its FSB, which is 1066 standard and that will give you around 8,5 GB/s as a theoretical maximum. To get this kind of bandwidth you need dual channel ddr2-533. But that's all just theory, in reallity your numbers will be lower and you might get closer to you 8,5 max by using ddr2-667 in dual channel for example.
You can of course just overclock  to get more bandwidth, but seen from the benchmarks, cornoe doesn't really need that much bandwidth.
