Hi all,
I just requested an RMA for my cpu (see sig) and I wanna double check with you all if I missed something.
Symptom: No startup, LED on Board lights but no Turn on?
Ruled out for sure:
Switch for power on and off is not it
Probable Rule outs:
MOBO (explained below)
Suspects: PSU (no meter testing but board led lights up and does a "discharge sound" when PSU powered down) and CPU (Saw AS5 on the pins when I went to install new board :slapass: ) <-- Favored
In long form: since I rma the Mobo for the same symptom thinking I hosed it from removing the passive cooling, and a new board comes back with the same symptom (no playing tweaking of board) logic says it was something else.
PSU: is brand new and had ran the system for about 10 hours with no power issues at all. Rails look great.
CPU: I noticed the AS5 when reinstalling it. I had gotten a smidge to fall of the edge and it weeped into the pins (near handle side of lever) from the last install of the rma'd mobo. It never ran and I just figured I hosed the board from modifying the passive cooling (a lot of work).

Is there any other troubleshooting you would do before RMA the chip?
If it is the AS5 would the chip be hosed? I cleaned it well and still nothing, wondering though if a enough residue to cause it to fail and if cleaned really well it will fire back up?
I know I could meter the PSU and intend to do so if someone here suggest it. My lappy is down too :( so I have to do the research at work.
Any Ideas?
