If you wonder will your old Socket 939 cooler fit in the brand new Socket AM2 motherboard, MADSHRIMPS has the answer. The new mounting mechanism may be compatible with some of the current 939 Thermalright, Scythe, Zalman, Coolermaster and other heatsinks. Click here to view the list of 115 heatsinks and learn if their clips will fit on the AM2 mounting holes or you'll have to modify with a custom bracket.

am i right in thinking, that it has a 4 hole mounting system, (like XP ect) so that most old 4 hole HSF's will fit. still strikes me as wierd why AMD went for a less stable mount with 2 holes.

I don't believe the distant between the holes is the same...
Also: Those old coolers don't have the capability to disperse the amount of heat generated by a high-performance AM2.
From what I've heard the boxed cooler seems very good so it's no biggy...
I would wish Intel and AMD make up their minds and develop a single mounting system (the mounting can be different as long as the bracket is such coolers are mountable on both). That would cut down in costs for coolers and I don't see how it could put anyone at a disadvantage...
those 4 mounting holes are in different locations than any previous layout
