Need a close up pic of a swagging tool, I can't find it anywhere lol, all it shows up on ebay is flaring tool.
Anyways, can someone please post a picture of their swagging tool, like the tip of it and the tool beside a copper tube. If possible, a flaring tool's tip as well. (I looked everywhere on XS, all I can find is the handle of a tool or the finished copper pipe)
Thanks in advance, just in case I'm asleep

Yep, they helped tons :P
Time to save another few bucks by making one myself with tool steel XD
Looks like just a :banana::banana::banana::banana: punch with 65' angled incline.
thanks!
btw another question, save a thread, lol
Do I swag it and flare it or all I need is swagging?
EDIT: the name of a tool was considered a dirty word.....
EDIT #2: garrr need a pic of the swagger base unit, I figured you can't swag with just a punch.

There are different types, from the punch type, to swaging adapters for a flare tool ,to a swanging expander.
those are listed in order ,cheapest first. I'll post some pic in a few miniutes.

Yes you can!!! you clamp the tube in your flaring bar. The swag punch I pictured was multi-size. They also make individual punches.
While punches get the job done they are the hardest to use,but the cheapest. I think that multisize punch cost something like $12.00
Do most people actually use a swagging tool/punch for their connections? I was told that stretching the copper like that creates a weak point right on the inner point of the join.
Instead i've actually gone out sourcing for some 1/4" and 3/8" coupling joins for joining the discharge line to the tubing, etc. so that I wouldn't have to use compression flared joins or anything like that.
If most people do use swagging for their joins and it works well for everyone, then i'll definitely grab myself one :P Saves buying a shtload of couplings everytime!
Sorry to hijack, just didn't want to start a new thread, and it seems rather on-topic.
Thanks,

swaging is used industry wide and in most applications is a very reliable way to join pipe, i would guesstimate that in 15yr playing with refrigeration system i could count on one hand failed swaged joints, done well they should last the life of the unit.

I never seen a swag joint fail, while you strech the outer wall and it gets thinner, you are also inserting a tube inside adding strength.
swaging saves the cost of a coupler and 50% of welding cost since you only braze one joint. This adds up especially in larger size tubbing.
Guess that makes my mind up then :) In addition to that it should make the joint look aesthetically cleaner too. Shouldn't be much to pick up one of the manual swagging tools, just finding them hopefully won't cause me too many issues either.
Thanks for your help guys :)

This is by far the best swagging tool ive used. Plus i can do almost any size tube with this one kit.

Swag tool is your best friend :buddies: . Every phase change nut  should have one.

So what does the base of a swager do? Just hold it in place so you can punch the tube above it. Or is the base slightly larger so your tube doesn't turn out a big V shape but rather a U shape?

I never got good results with the swagging punches.
But a flaring/swagging tool like mine in the picture works very good:

Punch is really painful to use especially over 1/4" (which is what you really swage most of time anyway... for 1/4, if I ever need it i typically just use connector).
The above mentioned tool works great. However, there is that more expensive one I've seen Reggie using from master cool. What a beautiful swaging it gets out. Bit too expensive for me for time being (can think of few other tools I could get instead)

This is a expanding head design, this is a manual version they also make hydraulic versions. they only make heads down to 3/8" and up. What makes these nice is there is no clamp mark left after swaging.
sorry cant post pic I,ve exceed my attachment limit. What to do?? if I delete old attachments you minds well delete the whole post as sometimes the pic gives the explanation.
