well my xp2800 barton is here and looks like i have a hot one...i hope.
i ordered a retail cpu for a change thinking that first batch of cpu chips would go to the oems and the later batches would get marked for retail as soon as the release date was near.and i might have called it right.
my chip
AXDA2800DKV4D
9411446260091
AQUCA 0304RPAW
that gives it a week of 4 ..last week of jan 03 .so this chip is just 3 weeks old.
here is a pic.
Well enough of pictures, get this sucker into a system and crank that sucker up! Make it scream and let us know what it gives yea. :D

well as soon as i get home and feed my kidds i will play with my chip.i am still at work.
by the way.in case any of you thought i purchased the retail for that extra warranty...... lol i am afraid not...
i will be cutting the chip maybe before the night is over if i have to to gain me some higher fsb room.
the reason i ordered the retail is just to help my odds of getting a newer week chip.plain and simple help the odds a little.a xp2800retail is only $8 higher than the oem in some places.and for $8 i am willing to give to help me get a better core.and i can always use the heatsink for something if nothing else cut it up for some mofset coolers.lol
now in a few months after they get out ..i wouldnt pay any extra but would buy the oem ,by then they will have better weeks.
dont worry i will be posting late tonight with some results:toast:

Why cut? Why not "blow the bridge" using a battery as I have seen other talk about. Supposedly undetectable and you can still RMA the chip under warranty later if you need to.
Then again, I've never tried either method and would be somewhat paranoid to do so in the first place. ;)
Anyway, good luck with the chip and let us now how things go ASAP!

Cant you tie wier arround the pins under the chip?
He could do the wire trick if he was connecting 2 bridges.... he is disconnecting though.

cutting the bridge is easier than blowing the bridge...
all you need to do is take a quick stab at it with an xacto knife and youre done

oo yeah use your phase change setup on it. Actually it would nice to know what it'll do on air but hey, it would be nice to see the limits of the chip. Let us know!

I'm just waiting for some results on wether or not to buy myself one.. I got plenty of crap I can sell to make up for the price of a barton if they're good enough ;)
bowman1964
02-18-2003, 07:29 PM
well unlike the xp2600....so far it seams to run fine at high fsb.
on air i got it up to 2400mhz 218x11@1.8v .but i have no mutiplyers over 12.5.so i am at the moment removing the foam corner suports on the chip and replacing them with epoxy mounting pads.(i do every AMD i own like this.)to prevent chipping of the core. and i am cutting the L3 also.i will need the 13 multiplier i hope. i did make a 3dmark03 run to see how it ran at that speed on air.here it is.
i am now trying to install in my evaperator back on the chip to cool her down.
WxChaser
02-18-2003, 07:38 PM
on air i got it up to 2400mhz 218x11@1.8v
Good work and quick benches, thanks a lot bowman. I've been looking forward to an unbiased Barton review for a while now, especially one without handpicked chips. When you cool that puppy down, I can imagine your benches. Thanks man.
XLNT bowman.... keep us advised of your progress bruh.:toast:

well cut the L3 bridge and got my upper multiplyers.so i am working on reinstalling the evaperator tommorow and push it a little harder lol:D
my last xp2600 started off about the same overclock on air and finally made it to a stable 2834mhz that i have been benching with.i hope this barton gets about the same.but i will see tommorow night i hope.:D

y don't you have multi's over 13
your epox bios should support that I would think, but then again what is the default multi of the 2800+ again?
Hallowed
02-18-2003, 11:16 PM
12.5 is 2800+ Mult.
Bowman, which L3 bridges did you cut / connect?
On a different note, if you remember a guy who goes by "jacktheripper", were about done with the R404 unit. :)

yes it uses a 12.5 x166...and i know everyone thinks these boards unlock the new chips but at this moment they do not allow multiplyers over 12.5.
my xp2600 was the same way that is why i have no problem cutting the chip ,as i have done it before.:)
this maybe solved with a bios change down the road but not yet.
anyway here is the bridge i cut .

How about the L12 cut which seemed to help my 2800+ T-Bred run more stable on the epox. Do you think that may also help here?
Also, what sink were you using for the air cooling?
bowman1964
02-19-2003, 09:37 AM
the L12 i am not sure yet.i might cut it anyway tonight it causes no harm to cut it.only set the default setting to 133 bus.and who cares about default setting anyway lol.......
i am using a sK7 I keep around for for times like this...

to make it clear newer boards only are able to fully unlock(5-24) tbred's with default multiplier of 13 and higher!!!!
with tbred's which have default multis of 12,5 and smaller only multiplier from 5-12,5 are slectable.

you are excately right.if you install a chip with a 13 and higher multiplyer you will be able to change your multiplyer.:)

i wont try anymore untill tommorow.going to let this thing run hard for a few more hours.

no i went ahead and hooked up the evaperator.chip seamed to not like over 1.9v on air.and i was getting impaient.i think it will run 2.6 on a high end fan and heatsink.water it would be easy.
but now i am still running loops of 3d2001 with no problems yet @1.95v core 2.634mhz:D
i think it wil go 2.8 or better before i am finished........:toast:

I didn't think you were still on air, although it would have been awesome if you still were! Anyway, I think you'll make 2.8 too (with a bit more juice)! Good luck!

Were did you get it from? Just curious, mine's in transit from newegg, hopefully have it by Saturday.
I'll make sure to check back tonight. Keep up the good work bowman, would very much like to see you hit 2800Mhz. Hoping mine will clock at least as high as my 2700+, which tops out at 2863Mhz.

That is incorrect as far as I know, regarding the Mults.. I have a XP1700 (mult of 11X) and am running it now at 15 x 166 FSB flawlessly. Without any changes to the chip itself. :)

:D Well my friend i have done that one.
that mod is for the board cutting off after pulling to much current and OVP kicks in.i was one of the first bunch of guys doing that.
the board is great now no problems at all .that i can see right now.it is just my new barton doesnt like high voltage.and it may be because of the extra L2 . I totally expect the bartons to be slower in clock speed because of the extra L2.the way it looks at this moment I think about 100 mhz lower overall speed is to expected over a similar tbred.my current xp2600 tbred will run 2834@2.1volt and i believe after a week or too i will see close to that speed with my barton xp2800.i have allready had my barton at 2808 mhz but i have lots of errors and since it wont take any voltage over 2.0 v at this moment i will have to just try to burn it in a little bit at a time.the extra L2 does make a differance in overclocking the chip.
i am just trying to let everyone know how mine is going.when i go out to buy something i like to here how it is doing from guys in here first sometimes and i really enjoy reading sucess stories everyone has.helps me decied sometimes yes or no when purchacing something. It is just i am at the point in time as i am able to purchace some of these things before others right now.and as i got help from others before when was unable to buy the best as soon as it came out i am trying to return the favor and help some other's out in here.

What cooling? Prometia? What motherboard?
How far did you get on air (if you tried)?
What stepping did the 2500+ have?
I´m about to buy either a 2500+ Barton or a 2600+, but you don´t seem to be that satisfied with your Barton. How does it compare in benchmarks?

My 2800+ goes to about 2520 on air, but anything over 1.85 or 1.875 volts gives a bluescreen or crashes. On the exact same platform (8rda+, etc.) My 2800+ T-bred would take 1.92v on air just fine, so thie barton seems to want lower volatge even though the temps are only in the low to mid 30's. (lower than what the non-barton 2800 temps were at similar mhz)
All that said, the barton seems to make Windows a bit zippier due to the extra cache. But that may be my imagination or wishfull thinking.
It did improve PCMark cpu and memory scores as compared to the exact saame settings and speeds again of the non-barton 2800.
