AMD Phenom II TWKR Black Edition spotted
Going into tease mode, Wallace Santos, the CEO of custom PC builder Maingear, has blogged about a 'special' AMD CPU called the Phenom II TWKR Black Edition. Seen below, the quad-core part is supposed to be able to overclock higher than the Phenom II X4 955 BE

Kind of, but the socket is very wide, that is because it has to be able to support a Istanbul MCM part for 45nm.
Istanbul should be able to fit in a AM3 socket on 45nm

cherry pick silicon with numbers of wafer part ?
Istanbul is server it's on socket 1207
a desktop product is unlikely sever cpu price is a lot higher. more profit there for AMD.
it would be very low clock 6 core BE wattage of 140 watts.
this says it can past 7ghz.

Every Phenom II press sample (not even marked as ES but couple weeks earlier than retail parts) I've tested so far have been worse than normal retails.

I wonder what the stock speed is, and is this meant to perform close to Core i7 or what?

My guess is that is the "high leakage" CPU some of the guys were talking about after the last AMD overclocking event.

Well, our Phenom II's are nothing but the exact same chips as the server ones - except ours only has 1 HyperTransportBus enabled. Istanbul migrating could very well be a reality.
Istanbul currently doesn't support DDR3 -Officially- as it's not a priority for AMD and its customers atm, which would make a Dekstop Istanbul going in the wrong direction to become a AM2+ CPU hmm.
But I think the same as you, that it's cherrypicked Deneb.

Everytime something like this happens I feel like poo.
I jumped on an AM2+ Phenom II setup as soon as it was out. If only I waited a bit for AM3, I'd atleast have a better upgrade path.
All these new CPU look brilliant. Specially that the new 6-cores might be out.
Also that box look amazing for a cpu :P If I could I'd buy it just for that.

Yeah but I was a fool and sold my DDR3 before hand. I want to use that again
I have a thing that I need an entire platform to fit perfectly. So AM3 mobo, with AM3 CPU with DDR3 Ram.
Worse is I know I'd need 3 graphics cards then.
I have a problem I know

Do you need to turn the lights on and off thirteen times before you enter a room?
I agree though, Why put shiny new tech in a old board that will hold it back? I have never upgraded just a cpu.

ooh, interesting
but this shouldnt be a ln2 oc chip, why should amd care and bring out a new proc just for that?
it has to clock substantially higher on water for it being interesting to maingear etc.
maingear doesnt sell overclocked cpu, afaik

True, I would love it if AMD got some decent ROG boards from Asus.
Although my next build will deffnently be a mATX or iATX if AMD ever get some decent boards that can take a good graphics card.
On a note about the lights on and off. Thank goodness not! Although I measure ( With an actual scale ) the amout of meat and carbs I get in :O I also need something green on my plate at all times. All times!
