New Atom and new GN40/ICH9M chipset

    Some halfbad babelfish translation:

Intel promotes Atom N280 in late February
The supplement GN40 chipset may broadcast the HD broadcast
    Article: John Lam/media center
Advertisement advertisement AMD chipset will invade Netbook, the Nettop market by Athlon Neo processor supplement AMD the 690E, to protect this piece of military commander land that must fight for, Intel has not accepted NVIDIA the ION platform the suggestion, decided that promotes brand-new Atom in late February the N280 processor, and the supplement brand-new GN40 chipset, uses the brand-new GMA4000 cartography core, not only the game potency promotes largely, may support HD Gao Huazhi to broadcast.

It is known that the Intel plan promotes brand-new Atom in late February the N280 processor, still used 45 nanometer Diamondville cores, is only when the core the arteries promotion to 1.66GHz, front end a row of afflux also promotes to 667MHz, similarly in constructs 512KB L2 Cache, supports the Hyper-Threading technology, may support processes 2 Threading.

In addition, Intel simultaneously promoted brand-new GN40 chipset supplement this Atom the N280 processor, GN40 chipset has designed based on Intel GM4x the IGP, in constructed the GMA 4000 cartography cores, Intel locates this supplement in “Enhanced Media Netbook”, compared to will use Intel 945GSE in the potency aspect to have the enormous improvement, could satisfy 7 ~ 10 吋 display monitors and under 800 x 400 ~ 1024 x 600 resolutions the 3D game's need, supported HD Gao Huazhi to decode more importantly, might support H.264, VC-1 and the MPEG 2 codes, but supported 720p perhaps 1080p high, then still waited for announcing.

Because Intel the GN40 chipset and Intel the 945GSE chip foot position is not accommodating, after in addition supplement Intel GN40, together with Intel N280 processor's power loss, by supplement Intel 945GSE 8W promotion to 16.5W, therefore the manufacturers need to aim at the GN40 chipset the radiation demand redesign product, now had learned about that ASUS has prepared the end of February to the beginning of March, promotes uses Intel Atom N280 processor supplement GN40 the chipset the Netbook product, the model established provisionally that is Eee PC 1000HE.

Intel Atom the N280 processor may also supplement Intel the 945GSE chipset, because the processor power loss reaches agreement, the existing product may, in has not modified under the radiation and the electrical design, renews the product directly, but because old some Intel Atom N270 under the Intel strict stipulation, will be unable supplement Intel the GN40 chipset.

According to the NB entrepreneur pointed out that Intel Atom 280 processor supplement GN40 chipset every thousand sets of unit prices approximately in 60 ~ 65 US dollars, compare the existing platform fixed price approximately to be higher than 20 US dollars, but because in the function and the specification has the large modification, might assist Intel converging attack AMD Athlon Neo the supplement 690E platform, does not need with the aid of NVIDIA the ION platform also 撃.

According to Intel the newest Netbook specification, Intel Atom N270, Intel Atom N280 processor supplement 945GSE, in 2009 the fourth season by next generation Atom processor Pineview supplement Tiger point south the bridge substitution, but Intel Atom N280 processor supplement GN40 will continue to 2010 the first half of the year.

Interesting, but to bad the N280 is still only a single core.

I bet they easly could build a A330 with a GN40 with less TDP then the old N270 and 945GSE.

Hm, i thought N270 is a dual core CPU (to be honest i haven't really checked detail info, just seen 2 CPU graphs on ACER Aspire One and assumed it's low end dual core). So basically these are single core CPU's with HyperThreading?

GMA is code for complete garbage. Ion will thrash this platform.

This isn't news.. It's been known for almost 3 weeks now.

At CES Asus was showing off its Netbook 10.2-inch Asus Eee PC 1004DN which was based around a previously unknown variant of the Intel Atom N280 unknown chipset Intel GN40. According to the Italian IT press Asus, Acer and Gigabyte Technology will produce a new Netbook-based chipset GN40 and Atom N280 processor. This includes the mysterious Asus Eee PC 1004DN.

The Intel Atom N280 will have a clock frequency of 1.66GHz with 667MHz FSB. The unit cost will be between $60 and $65. This is pricey in comparison to the $46 Intel Atom N270 will set you back.

But the reports point out that Intel's Pineview chip is due out around the release date of the new Netbook so it is possible to guess that what was being seen at CES was none other than a Pineview prototype.
